So, a lot has happened to me in the past couple of weeks, and I'm finally filling you all in!
I don't remember if I've mentioned before, but I'm a manager for a national smoothie company in Colorado, and my district was recently refranchised. Our new owners have kept a lot of things the same, and kind of leave us to do our own thing. It's nice, and it's actually easier to go to work now without the thought of CORPORATE hanging over our heads.
I've been working there, at the same store, for the past two and a half years (really two years, eleven months exactly). I started twenty days after my boss, and he and I have been "together" (not in that sense) for the entire time we've been there. However, about two weeks ago, he took me out back behind the store (where he really yells at people when he doesn't want the other team members to overhear) and told me this:
"So, July 8th will be my last day."
Yeah. He quit. He got another job with a telecommunications company as a project manager, which enables him to spend more time with his three kids and the rest of his family. I'm happy for him, but that means that someone has to take over the store as General Manager...
And that someone was, apparently, me.
I'm now the General Manager of my store, and it's INTENSE/SCARY/EXCITING/AWESOME/WEIRD to think that I'm responsible for an entire store. That means I put together the schedule, complete weekly inventory, and am responsible for...everything.
So far, my store (my store, which is soooo weird to think about) has been performing well. I'm beating my weekly/periodical/quarterly/yearly sales, I have a great food cost variance (which means the variance between theoretical [what we should be using in ingredients based on products sold] and actual [what we DID use in ingredients] usage is very small), and I'm saving labor hours and money in that department as well. That's all good.
But as I found out last week, that's not all I have to worry about! As of Wednesday, my store will be playing host to the President of ALL the Stores from Corporate, the Regional Franchise Manager from Corporate, one of the owners of our new company, AND my District Manager. My store has to be clean (sparkling, actually), with a new floor that was being put in last night/tonight, and a great staff on for the day.
It's a lot to deal with.
Please please please wish me luck!
This is my day off, so I'm doing NOTHING. Nothing at all except watching Season 8 reruns of "Project Runway" on Lifetime. I forgot how much I freaking love this show. It's true. Heidi is adorable and Tim is so freaking gay, it's awesome. They definitely have a cool, fun friendship. I think they're BFFs.
That's it for now. I hope you're all sufficiently updated on my life! :)
