Have you ever had one of those moments where the fic just grabs you by the arm and doesn't let go? It happened to me late last night/really early this morning. I couldn't sleep, and turned on my laptop -- that's what you're supposed to do in that situation, right? I was reading queenklu's very newly posted Sailing For Adventure on the Big Blue Wet Thing and ohmylanta, I got three paragraphs in and I was already planning out which Muppets songs would go where.
I knew going into it that I had a list of fics to start podficcing, to continue podficcing, to finish podficcing, and to add music to the podfic - that list is very, very long. There are fics on there that are ranked by order of priority, seniority, and musicality. Not to mention my PBB podfic, of which there are approximately 70,000 words and I have recorded only 1,000 of them. So it's not really like I needed - or even should have - to bump this one to the top of the queue.
And yet.......Sailing for Adventure on the Big Blue Wet Thing is a
fic, which automatically made me smile even before I had read it. In previous rounds of
, queenklu has written a Lilo & Stitch J2 (you have no idea how much I love Stitch - there may or may not be a plush stuffie Stitch sitting in my house somewhere), and a Nightmare Before Christmas J2 (which has been my favorite movie for more than a decade). (ETA 12/25/14 - dapatty has podficced I Am The "Who" When You Call "Who's There?" and it is AMAZING.) Both of these fics are on my to-podfic-list, never fear. In Sailing for Adventure..., queenklu puts together Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles and the Muppets' Treasure Island. How could I possibly turn away? I have the Muppets' Treasure Island soundtrack on my iPod - it's my favorite Muppets movie besides A Muppet Christmas Carol. Seriously, the Muppets are turning into a regularly visited fandom for me - it's awesome.
I had a blast podficcing this story - it was such an organic recording experience, too. As if, while I was reading, I could completely picture Rizzo the Rat's character as played by Chad Michael Murray. Sam Eagle's role was recast, to Bobby Singer. The movie soundtrack's irreverence and queenklu's tongue in cheek wit pair well together, and just.......well, this baby just flowed right out from beginning to end.
