Mind you, none of this has anything to do with ME, personally...

Allow me to discuss with you a purely hypothetical situation.

Say that there was this person - we'll call her, let's see..."Reep".

Ahem.

Okay; let's then say that "Reep" has just recently gotten a wee-tiny, incredibly cute...duckling. Yes, that's it ( Read more... )

payattentiontome, puppy!

Has Reep considered putting a blanket over the duckling's cage while they're knitting? You know, like a parrot at night.

And if Reep does this as a general rule, then the duckling shouldn't get upset when Reep is knitting because it'll be used to it.

Did that make any sense?

Ahhh. Reep hadn't thought of the blanket-over-the-cage trick, but she'll certainly give it a try.

Soonish, probably. *eg*

Once upon a time, with my boyfriend, his "duck" jumped on the bed while we were "knitting" and bit his toe. You have never seen such laughter. So long as the duck doesn't stare unnervingly, I think you should knit without concern. Also, you could consider covering the "nest" with a blanket while you knitted, which would block the duck's direct view but still not necessitate banishment.

You make a good point - the 'duckling's' crate is one of those plastic jobbies, so if it was turned sideways, I suppose she wouldn't be able to see anything.

Now I just hope she doesn't decide to yowl when I do...[/TMI]

I third the blanket over the crate nest idea. Or, um, if there was a handy bathroom nearby, perhaps the crate could go there for some time while you knit?

I know personally, my er... duck would become dead-weight when you tried to kick him off the bed, so at times he remained until a stray...er.. foot or arm would hit him. Then he scooted to his own bed on the floor. We knitted rather enthusiastically. So, yeah, I figure as long as they're not staring or taking pictures of your "knitting" with the vidcam, it's all good. Unless you think you'd not be able to look your "duck" in the eye again after that. I mean, unless your duck learns to talk and tells everyone whether you like to perl *then* knit or yaknow... drop stitches or something. 'Cause that would be bad.

Mr. Husband Person would like to go on the record as noting that he's been knitting for fifteen years now, and he's never once dropped a stitch. *eg*
