I know in Europe the "c" word is not considered so offensive. It's definitely our North American-ness that makes us cringe a bit more. I recently watched the film American Beauty and Mena Suvari's character yells that word at another girl at school, and on the commentary, the director, Sam Mendes, who is British, was laughing about the fact that Americans get so riled up about that word in particular ( ... )

It really got me thinking about women and girls who call each other bitches, sluts and whores. I mean, I'm guity of doing it myself. And it just saddens me so much that this has become practice. Kids younger and younger are thinking that this is "cool" all because adults do it, or Mean Girls or whatever.
I think you're right. You can only start with yourself, right? Examples are really important. And leading by them is hard and necessary at the same time.
