» BACKGROUND: • AGE 5; left alone with the snow during a storm. She was approached by a vampire who wanted to eat her, but was rescued by a person she would come to know as Kaname Kuran, also a vampire.
• Taken in and soon officially adopted by Kaien Cross. As she had no memories of her life prior to being rescued, Cross taught her all she needed to know- including information about vampires.
• Somehow associated with Cross, Kaname often stopped by during this time.
• AGE 12; Yuuki is introduced to Zero Kiryuu, a young boy (age 13) from hunter lineage brought in by Cross, whose family had been killed by vampires. Yuuki took kindly to him, gently caring for his wounds and cared & worried for him from the start.
• Continues to learn from Cross, as well as attend the school he heads.
• AGE 16; a year 1 student in Cross Academy's high school section, and a prefect, or a guardian. They work to keep the Day and Night classes in order and separate- the latter entirely comprised of vampires.
• Comes to realize that Zero is a vampire, after he succumbs to blood lust and bites her.
• Wanting to help Zero in any way she can, although the act is seen as a taboo, she offers him her blood. This continues for some time.
• During this time, Yuuki often tries hard to remember what her life was, and who her real parents were, before she was taken in by Cross. Because of this, she eventually begins having vivid, bloody hallucinations.
• Starts to suspect that Kaname may have something to do with her forgotten past. Asking about this, he doesn't give a straight answer, only surprising her by asking her to be his lover. She's wary.
• The hallucinations and dreams worsen.
• Before she ends up losing herself, Kaname bites her.
• The action "wakes" Yuuki, restoring memories, as well as her true nature. She's a pureblood vampire, born to Haruka & Juri Kuran, and both the sister & fiancé of Kaname. Every part of her that related to vampires was put to sleep with a spell cast by Juri, in order to protect Yuuki's life. Both mother & father sacrificed their lives to give Yuuki a happier childhood.
• Goes to fight against Rido - her uncle, and the one who led Haruka & Juri to their decision, as Rido was after her blood.
• The fight ends with both her & Zero killing Rido.
• Before leaving the campus with Kaname, she says her goodbyes to Zero. He bites her one last time, a confession, and kisses her before they part. The next time he sees her, he says, he'll kill her.
One year passes. (AGE 17)
• Living with Kaname at the Kuran manor.
• The year was difficult. What remains of her human self is frustrating and a struggle. She refuses to use her fangs to get blood. Instead, Kaname cuts his wrist. She knows it's spoiling her.
• Is privately taught by Aidou. Not a very studious girl, but shows she wants to learn.
• Told by Kaname that there will be a meeting between the Council and the Hunters Association, regarding the plan for a coexistence.
• Continues to feel conflict over her inner, true vampire self, in addition to just how she's come to realize her feelings toward Zero. The latter gets to the point where she forces herself away from Kaname, telling him she doesn't deserve to be kissed or touched by him, because of how cruel & greedy she must be to want and need both he and Zero as much as she does..
• A ball with both vampires and hunters is to take place after the meeting. It is the first time in a year that Yuuki leaves the mansion.
• The ball starts off on a good note. She's startled to learn that Yori (her best friend; a human) was snuck in, but the reunion - brief as it is - is a happy one. She also sees Zero for the first time in a year, but this doesn't go as pleasantly.
• Ouri, One of the four purebloods attending is found missing, then dead. A hunter is dead as well. Seeing the body of the hunter, who had killed herself with her own weapon, Yuuki proclaims that she's determined to find whoever did it.
• She learns from Aidou, soon after, that both Ouri and the hunter's death were part of an elaborate suicide plan (for the pureblood), but it's difficult to believe. She goes on to ask Kaname more about purebloods and their lineage, along with why there's such a small population of them when they have a practically endless lifespan. The option of death by suicide (for a pureblood), because of the aforementioned, saddens her, leading to more questions.
• Upon receiving Artemis from Kaname, who retrieved it from the Hunters Association, she makes a decision; something that "only she can do." Traveling to one of the other pureblood's homes, the incident dealing with Ouri's death is brought up.
• Not wanting, and refusing to let anyone else to sacrifice the lives of others, or theirs to be sacrificed, Yuuki announces (to Isaya, aforementioned pureblood) that when a pureblood wishes to die, she will be the executioner.
• Leaving Isaya's, she and Aidou continue on to a cemetery, as Yuuki says she wants to visit Momoyo, an elderly lady who was the housekeeper and caretaker of Yuuki when she was growing up with Cross.
• There she is confronted by Touma, another head of a pureblood family. Claiming to be there just to introduce himself, Touma notes that she must be "that sheltered brat" from the Kuran family, and proceeds to tell her that, as things are finally turning more violent, she mustn't get in the way of him "enjoying the view."
• Yuuki politely requests that Touma not make a scene, as it would disrupt the peace near where many people had been laid to rest. Touma, however, completely disregards this, and further antagonizes Yuuki by striking at and injuring her.
• Before Touma can strike again, Zero emerges from beyond the cemetery gates and threatens him off. Passing out from blood loss before she can say much other than a startled, "Good evening," to Zero in response, she's taken away by him (and followed by Aidou) to a safe-house run by the Hunter's Association.
• Yuuki slowly wakens as Zero carried her in. The scent of him, especially so close, and while being in a dazed state, nearly leads Yuuki to biting Zero. She catches herself at the last moment and asks Zero to let her down. With a flustered and awkward apology, she slips out through the window. She then asks (pleads) to Kaname - whom was present by way of a familiar - to take her home, telling him it is okay if she is to be punished.
• Even while low on blood, one home, Kaname "punishes" Yuuki by biting her in a few different areas. He tells her she did well, simply due to how she didn't take Zero's blood. It's frustrating as he tells her that there are things that no matter how hard a person tries, it always comes down to nothing. This has Yuuki at a loss; she only wonders why Kaname speaks with such despair; she asks why he gave her Artemis and what he wants her to become. All he says is that he doesn't want her to go forth into a lost cause, and end up sacrificing her life.
• Kaname then tells Yuuki that he is not really her brother. He sees that she doesn't understand, and takes her to the underground mausoleum in the Kuran manor, resting her upon the coffin where he lay at rest for centuries.
• Drinking Kaname's blood, Yuuki learns & sees how he isn't her brother. Yuuki learns that her real brother (named Kaname), when just a baby, was sacrificed by her uncle Rido. Rido awoke the Kuran family ancestor by feeding him the baby's blood & flesh, in order to rule him and gain his power. The Ancestor over-powered Rido and attacked him, however. Before being overcome with a waking bloodlust thousands of years old, and too weak to regenerate, rather than go after baby Kaname's parents, the Ancestor chose his only other option. He regressed his body into that of a baby and locked away his memories, and renders himself completely vulnerable and dependent upon Haruka & Juri Kuran. The Ancestor's name also happened to be Kaname.
• Seeing this all, Yuuki consoles Kaname, and lets him know it's okay and not to worry. That the only Kaname for her, is him. She asks, then, who he is. To let it all out, and tell her everything. She wants to know.
• Kaname tells her to ask his blood. She does so.
• Through his blood, she sees, feels, learns, and otherwise experiences Kaname's past first-hand. What she sees is a time from over ten thousand years in the past; a moment when the founders of the vampire race began to discover that there were more like themselves scattered all over the world.
• Through this, Yuuki learns more about the (as well as the war amongst) purebloods. She learns & sees parts of how Kaname lived (how he stayed within a village and assisted them with his medicine-like blood, while stealing their own blood for sustenance, and of a hooded woman he was close to), and even the beginnings of the anti-vampire weapons. Amongst much more.
• Having expected & wanting him to be at her side when she woke, Yuuki rushes out to find Kaname. He confesses to her that he had a feeling that he someday would want her to know the truth; instead of wait until that day (where "the Yuuki who listened to him so obediently, wouldn't be able to endure it any longer"), he'd tricked her, even despite what she had gone through.
• Even though Kaname tells her this, Yuuki still says she wanted him to be the first thing she saw. It was the only sure thing, being in such a confused state, and still not understanding everything, very overwhelmed. All Yuuki knows is that, as long as Kaname lives on, he will be a person who embraces weakness. Kaname tells her that it's okay if she wants to think that he stole her brother's life. From this point, she says she'll simply call him "Kaname."
• Yuuki speaks a little with Lord Aidou upon Kaname leaving for an appointment. Some of his comments get her thinking about how she is with Kaname, but believes that nothing will happen until she can think of herself as Kaname's equal. - A statement that, for her, is still too far away to even think of saying, even if the vampire inside of her doesn't care (that the desire for him is "so pure it can't be hidden"). That it has her thinking of how, presently, the limit of her power is simply taking care of herself.
• A bit later, she passes Ruka & Kain when in the hall, noticing Ruka seems upset. Yuuki bursts in to where Kaname is, quick to accuse him and ask what he did to Ruka. He is silent in response when she asks him what happened; it's another secret he's holding.
• When he goes to leave again, Yuuki starts when calling his name, remembering it was the name the hooded woman in his distant-past gave him. He tells her she can rename him, if she'd like (that she can, if she's jealous), although Yuuki doesn't take to the idea. In fact, she's upset that he would think such a thing, as the name was given to him by their parents.
• Kaname then brings her to the room where he slept and kept her locked up, until she learned to use her fangs and properly satisfy her hunger. Yuuki states that she must seem like a child to him. Kaname then gives her a key, which he deems important, though doesn't tell her what it's for.
• Yuuki is asked by Kaname how she sees him- wanting to hear it for himself, rather than guessing. In this, Yuuki is completely honest. She says:I recently found out you're my ancestor... but, I was happy with you as my older brother... As my senior. You're the same species as me; a beast in the form of a beautiful man. You're an animal, but also fragile. And a liar. And there's something evil about you that I can't trust. You have so many secrets. When I was little, I promised to be your wife. But, to be honest, I'm not even sure if you really like me that much.
• She says that although she does like him, her emotions are mixing together, messy. With that, Yuuki tells Kaname that she wants to start over, and examine him more closely. That from that moment forward, she wants to start over, and that that's all the answer she can give him.
• Kaname agrees to beginning anew. However, only moments after this, he says he needs to leave again. Yuuki begs him not to go; to stay in and read her a story like when they were children, and spend the day cuddling.
• Kaname tells Yuuki that despite there being a decision he made, hesitation began growing within him. His final words to her, before leaving, were, "Please, you... Don't hesitate." Sensing something terribly wrong, Yuuki follows not long after Kaname leaves, feeling that she needs to stay near him.
• On her way, Yuuki crosses paths with one of the Association's prison cars, with Kaien Cross as one of the passengers (with Aidou as well). She pleads with him to let her ride with them, seeking her destination.
• Yuuki and Aidou arrive to the Hanadagi (pureblood) family's ancestral home just in time to witness as Kaname decapitates Nagamichi Aidou, Aidou's father, and a close and loyal supporter to the Kuran family. He is reduced to ashes immediately (Kaname had also killed the head of the Hanadagi family, however Yuuki did not directly witness this).
• Kaname tells a stunned Yuuki that he is, "done hesitating" and made his choice only once to stay with her, but is going to "fulfill my (his) original plans." He apologizes to Yuuki, thanks her, then leaves.
• Desperate, Yuuki runs off to follow Kaname, needing to know why.
• She runs into Cross again, who insists she must stay put. It's a struggle, at first. Cross continues to tell her he can't, not as her adoptive parent. He says that what they witnessed was, "completely unlike Kaname's behavior," and could see no reason behind it. Yuuki tries to dissuade Cross from his decision by additionally calling him daddy (a name she never did use while living with him, despite being adopted by him, and seeing him as her father). She still insists, yelling to Cross that she thought she would be moving forward with him (Kaname).
• Yuuki is visibly shaken and overwhelmed by what just happened, and it has its effects upon her, and it shows both emotionally and physically. Too caught up in it, blood sprouts from Yuuki's back and forms into a pair of large butterfly wings. She calmly states that Kaname's presence is so far away that it can't be chased.
• The wings disappear. Yuuki, as if in a trace during that time, is dazed and isn't sure of what just happened. Cross subdues her, explaining that she was on her way back to where she belonged, and that her relationship with Kaname just isn't so simple anymore.
• Because she witnessed the even, but more so because she's Kaname's fiancee, Yuuki is detained as a person of interest.
• While walking through the Association HQ with Cross and Aidou, Yuuki catches site of Zero and Kaito as they're headed out on an emergency hunt.
• Yuuki is interrogated by Cross and Yagari about the intentions and possible where abouts of Kaname. She can only, however, give them speculations. That all she knows of him is that he was trying to live together with her.
• Yuuki tells Cross that she will go and find Kaname to ask, and that she came to the HQ to tell them that, and doesn't want them (Cross, Yagari, the hunters) to stand in her way.
• Cross asks if she knows the about the terms for the treaty between the Hunters' Association and Kaname- who is the head of all vampires. Yuuki does, and states so. Peaceful order, prohibition of aggressive contact with humans, and cooperation on both sides. It was a promise made by Kaname upon his blood. Yuuki is told that, as Kaname's sister, she is obligated to hold the promise as well, and must gain the support of the noble vampires as the alternate head representative, otherwise another pureblood may step up.
• The interrogation over, and Yuuki told to think it through, free to do as she wished withing the Association headquarters, she goes to see Aidou. She tells him he can go home, and that she will for sure find Kaname and ask him why he did what he did. Aidou, however, insists on remaining where he is, as Kaname had specifically requested that he stay by Yuuki's side.
• Yuuki smells blood and goes to investigate. She meets Kaito in the courtyard, holding a young girl. With him are two other hunters. The girl is a rescued victim of the recent attack, the vampire at fault having gotten away. Kaito tells her the area always smells of blood, and that Yuuki shouldn't get any closer to the child.
• The two other hunters have their weapons at Yuuki's throat when she steps in, however they don't act when she puts a hand atop the girl's head. When she does, however, she sees glimpses of the child's memory of the attack. Kaito tells her she had "sucked out what was interfering with her memories" (the vampire having some ability to work with emotion and memory). It worries her to see what may have happened to Zero within them. The child begins sobbing, and Kaito leaves.
• Yuuki goes to see Cross again, first asking if there were a possibility of something like the Night Class being put together again, but is told it would be rather difficult. She then asks permission to leave. She tells him that she is certainly a pureblood of the "Kuran" name, but it's not because of that, or any obligation; she wants to show them (vampire society) by action in order to gain their trust and acceptance of her ways.
• She asks permission, then, to punish the vampire that got away from Zero; stating she still wants vampire and humans to get along. Given the O.K. from Cross, Yuuki sets out. After that, she's determined to find Kaname and ask him to explain his reasons for doing what he did.
» OTHER: As mentioned, Yuuki still has her fangs. Her taste for and ability to ingest blood remains, although her ability to sense it is heavily suppressed (90% or so), compared to when she's in her normal state.
