Hi, this is Mary Winchester. I can't come to the phone right now, so leave a message after the beep and I'll get back to you just as soon as I can. Thanks!

[Pause.]

...Beep.

[Yes, she said the word "beep." Don't sass.]

Hi, Mary. We haven't spoken, but I've seen you around the Network, and I know who you are.

I'm from your world. This will sound really strange, but I'm actually a prophet. I had visions of your sons' lives and the war and battles they fought. I also had some visions of their childhood, long after it happened. The Winchesters aren't very forthcoming people, as I'm sure you've discovered for yourself, so if you ever need answers, you can contact me and I can see if I can give you more than anyone else has.

Consider this an open invitation.

[Hey Mary, here's your son calling. The older and more attractive one, of course.]

[She still always sounds bemused when she first answers. It's hard to get over a Star Trek communicator ringing in your purse.]

Hello?

[ If Mary could see her she would see this face, but as it is Helen just sounds a little... awkward. Why? i) Helen rarely admits needing help. ii) Helen Magnus rarely dates and right now both are happening ]

Hi, it's Helen. [ Just give her a moment to figure out how the heck to ask ] I'd like your advice with something.

Hey, Helen. [If Mary sounds tired, it's only because she woke up to her son's Hell-rape nightmare last night piggybacking the nightmare of her new friend who happens to be identical to said son. Nbd.]

Okay. What is it?

[Hey, Mary, it's hubby calling.]

Hey, Mary? You didn't tell me where you went off to.

[Also why is all the stuffing gone. He was totally going to eat that.]

[Hey, it's wifey picking up. It sounds like she's outside, in the city.]

John? Uh, sorry. I thought I left a note...

Didn't see one. Can you just let me know next time, before you leave?

[You're going to have to deal with this overprotectiveness for a while, Mary.]

[Oh thank god it went to voice mail. Tom speaks with a quiet sympathy.]

Hey Mary... It's Tom.

I uh.. I just wanted to see if. I don't know. If you wanted to go on a walk or something. But I get it if you don't.

I heard what happened. Jesus, Mary, I'm so sorry.

[She gets the call during work and lets it go to voicemail on purpose. Tom's gentle voice fills the back room while she stocks supplies and does inventory, and she only has to close her eyes and count to five once. It's impressive, all things considered.

Mary's never been more grateful for the difference in their voices.

It's a few hours later when she calls, during her twenty-minute smoke break that precedes the real lunch break.]

[It rings twice before he answers, having been across the room and rolling across his bed to get the NV. He looks at the caller ID, frowns ever so slightly, and picks up.]

Hey.. [He didn't think she'd call back. But he completely understood why.]
