i'm sure you'd need either:
a) a 10m long ruler
or
b) a really precise, sharp knife
for it to work. you'd need to drag it across the string pretty fast, regardless!

I don't intend for it to be a very precise excercise, I figure that with a 30cm ruler if I use the middle 15cm I could get some interesting sounds,

it'd sound like a saw, but I could do some simple dynamics with the speed/sound by spacing the grooves and heights of the groove,

hey, do you want to buy my fretless guitar? i was thinking of selling it on ebay, but then i thought maybe you'd like it. the pickups are kinda crappy when played clean but they sound pretty great through distortion.

well, i originally bought the guitar for $150. i'll let you decide how much you think my modifications (new knobs, de-fretting, nice paint job) would add to / subtract from the price.

I could only really justify paying $100 for it at the moment with my current financial sicho.. but what if I threw in a korg a5 in with it, would that be acceptable?
