So this is a Tengu Journal...?

In all my travels, I had only merely heard of such a thing.

...Ah, hello...! I presume that this can be read by others, can it not?

That's right. Everyone else with one of these can read whatever you write unless you render it viewable by particular people. I'm curious- did you just get yours delivered, or are you one of those people who happened to find one?

Oh! So that is how it works...thank you very much.

It was delivered to me. Though as of why, I do not understand.

Generally speaking one you get one of these things it's because someone in the government- or the Tengu kingdom- thinks that you're a person of interest in the war. Someone to watch, someone whose thoughts need to be recorded. Who are you? If I may ask?

I...I see. Though truly, I am not one of any real importance. There must have been a mistake.

I am Ovelia. Ovelia Oaks.

You would presume correctly, my lady.

So it is true that you only are delivered these if you are considered someone 'to watch' within this war?

Not quite. Many are those who take their journals from the corpses of the fallen... though I daresay you don't strike me as the type.

No...mine was delivered to me.

I do not think I could bring myself to take something belonging to the fallen.

It is a fascinating artifact. It is wonderful that so many can communicate with one another, even from long distances.

It's really amazing! I wonder how it does it...

Perhaps it is a form of magic. It would not surprise me if that was the case.

They're a pretty new thing. I think the Tengu created them just to go along with the Emperor's challenge.

Lina Inverse, Sorceress Supreme, by the way. What's your name?

The Emperor's challenge...

A sorceress? So you are versed in magic as well?

I am Ovelia Oaks, a traveler.

It's nice to meet you, Ovelia.

I'm the greatest human practitioner of black magic in all Eisengoku, in point of fact.

Oh! Truly?

I am but a humble practitioner of white magic, though I am attempting to gain more strength in my magical talents.
