So not everyone knows about what has been going on with dog, my best friend, my 5-year-old chocolate lab Xander, for the past 5 weeks. In the beginning, I only knew Xander wasn't feeling well because he wasn't eating and had started vomiting several times a day. Believing it was probably just a bug or infection, I immediately took him to the vet

I really feel for you. This whole post was just a heartbreaker to read. It's been a while since I've had a dog but I do currently have a cat that I love like mad. I have a tendency to be really soft hearted when it comes to nearly any animal. For the most part I like them more than people.

When a beloved pet, especially one so young, is ill and/or dying it's like losing a family member. If you make his last days the happiest you can then I think you've done the best you can by him.

I'm so sorry. I've been there and I know its the worst thing in the world. At the very least you know you can make the best of time you have.

I'm so sorry Regan. *hugs* I know how it feels to be forced to make the decision, and like you, let whatever come come. Knowing in advance won't make it any easier when it does happen...but at least take comfort you and Xander can have some time together to say goodbye.
