How these two have not met must be entirely due to a twist of fate. Fuchsia's days often revolve around the library, but she has found other sources of a good story.

Fuchsia may come upon the girl curled up on the couch, but it could've been just as likely that the girl could've come upon Fuchsia in exactly the same situation.

It could be the Mansion playing silly buggers and making it hard for them to see each other. It could be their respective schedules not meshing quite right. Ships passing in the night and all that.

Catherine turns over a page, then looks up, a bit surprised. "Oh, I'm sorry," she says, closing the book. "I did not hear your approach. I was rather wrapped up in the story."

The cover has an odd religious aspect to it. Fuchsia's read a lot of religious stories thanks to the fount of tales that is Parsifal.

Most of those stories Fuchsia's found entertaining, but probably not the soul-enriching experience others might hope for.

The apple reminds her of Eve.

"Is it a good tale? I do so like a good tale."

She smiles, broadly and yet a bit conspiratorially. "Oh, it is an utter delight to read. It is a tale of a near-forbidden love between an ordinary young woman and a young man who is a child of the night," she says.
