[Shouryuu had been walking around the island for some time, though nowhere in particular. Around the forests, through the city - wherever his legs took him he went. His thoughts were occupying his full attention, and he made his way around on a sort of distracted auto-pilot until he finally found himself just outside of the main graveyard, lined with stones and names of people he didn't know. It was solemn reminder, he supposed, that people did die here, permanently, even if some did come back. What puzzled him is what made people a candidate for returning. What was the factor in deciding who came back and who didn't

[Youko stifled her weeping when she heard Shouryuu's voice coming from behind. She had been so distraught, she hadn't sensed anyone approached and the hinman wouldn't be alert with her eyes watering and shut down. She turned her head and looked over her shoulder.]

Sorry. Perhaps I should have said something. [He stopped just behind Youko, glancing over at the small, simple grave, before turning his attention back to Youko again.]
You didn't do anything wrong, [he said after a few seconds of hesitation.] You couldn't have predicted what was going to happen. All that matters is you did your best with what you had, and I know you did.

Youko shook her head, turning to stare at the grave again. She knew she caused his death or, at least, that her indecision and neglectful carelessness led to his death in a way.
She couldn't excuse her incompetence.]
I was his owner. His tiny life was so simple to look after and look how that ended.
