I was afraid it would come to this...

Well, a week has come and gone, and much as I expected, I could think of no topic worthy of blogging on. As a result, I am afraid I must subject my readers to a topic that I am very good at rambling on and on about: World of Warcraft. I know, I am disappointed too, for I had hoped to have something far more exciting to speak of, but putting off ( Read more... )

Hehe, I think Blizzard probably owns as many souls as the Devil at this point. I guess it's just what happens when a company really takes the time to make sure their games are well-made, balanced, and fun for players. You would not believe (or actually, you would) the amount of fuss people have made over the beta for Starcraft II. People are so crazy about it, they even hosted tournaments with prize money. For a beta! I've always thought that'd be a great way to make your fortune: playing the beta release of a game before the real thing ever comes out.

Anyway, I always enjoy hearing about your WoW characters and experiences. Character creation is always my favorite part of playing an RPG too, because I like thinking up a concept and then fitting the features of the game (classes, races, skills, organizations, etc.) to that concept. It's always interesting to hear what goes on in other people's heads when they create their characters too.

Peter was making fun of me about all my alts recently, saying, "You have so many... and duplicates!" (By duplicates, he means that I have multiple characters of a particular class.) I replied, "What do you mean 'duplicates'? They're different races, different specs, and often the opposite faction. That's so not a duplicate ( ... )

Hehe, Blizzard really knows how to make it easy for people to happily give them more money. :) I guess that option to re-spec characters is probably more for people who have more money than time on their hands. I know people from other games who think of leveling up as repetitive or tedious (and I think that way a little myself, especially if it involves just killing stuff for XP rather than doing quests or something more mentally challenging), so I can imagine them thinking that it's more worth it to pay a little extra cash not to have to go through all that again ( ... )

Yeah, Blizzard's marketing team is brilliant. And just to clarify (because I realized this was probably unclear when I reread my own comment earlier), a talent re-spec costs in-game gold, but all the other stuff like server-transfer, name changes, and race/faction changes is what costs real money. The most useful features, and the ones that appeal to most players, are the server and faction switches because if someone has an Alliance character on one server, then discovers that his friends play Horde on another, he can say, "Hey, I can play with you guys! Just let me get my level 80 priest switched over."

I watched the first episode of The Guild waaaay back when, but never got around to watching the rest. However, right now, I have other shows on my schedule of things to watch, like finishing Code Geass and rewatching Slayers Revolution/Evolution-R. So I'll add this to my list and you can feel free to remind me about it again in the future.
