"I still wish I'd been able to show you the radio station." Cecil sighed. He sort of didn't want to know who was doing his show in the meantime, but it would've been nice to give Kenzi and Raven the tour.
Unfortunately, Carlos had put his foot down. Right on top of the only guest pass, the adorable, perfect klutz. Now the blood-runes were ruined.
"Want to get dinner tonight at the Moonlite All-Nite Diner? Their non-corporeal pie is pretty good. We can go bowling next door, too, if we don't bring ♥Carlos♥." Because Carlos was never, ever setting foot in the Desert Flower Bowling Alley and Arcade Fun Complex again, if Cecil had anything to say about it.
"Because." Cecil frowned. "The tiny homicidal civilization under the pin retrieval area of lane five nearly killed him! I actually thought he was dead for several minutes!" He really didn't like to think about it.
Raven was kind of in love with Nightvale, actually.
"I could totally just walk around here blue all I wanted to," she said. "People would just say, 'oh, there goes that blue girl, did you hear she made the honor roll?' They wouldn't even blink. Did you hear there's a girl here who was born as just a hand?"
The babbling was a good sign. The babbling meant she wasn't yet planning to shapeshift into a strange, hooded figure and try to infiltrate the dog park, yet.
"Or spritzing them with a spray bottle," Kenzi mused. "Nah, but you know, stripes would be pretty cool. Or tattoos that change every day." She shook her head. "This place kind of pushes the limits on what anyone would think of as normal. Mostly in a good way..."
And then there was the thing about wheat, for crying out loud.

Some of the lights swooped, and Kenzi could hear an old-lady growl from inside the house, admonishing someone.

"I did not! Man, I feel boring by comparison. Do you think I could get gills or something if I hung out here long enough?"
Reply
"Maybe? Do you really want gills? You'd probably have to be underwater all the time."
