One could say that Hogwarts ran on a number of basic elements, both material and personal. Parchment and ink, magic and imagination, youth and experience ( Read more... )

The tiny little fieldfare was perched on a low branch in a nearby tree; its flock no where to be found. Carolyn had been chasing a chubby brown squirrel when she spotted the winter visitor all on its own. Her eyes grew in wonderment as her attention changed directions. She quietly tip toed her way over to the early arriving bird of passage for further examination.

The bird seemed to take no notice of her further approaching form until she was just metres away from where it had settled. Its red brown wings spread to their full potential as its round body elevated from the branch and the Turdus pilaris took flight.

Carolyn watched the bird fly over the greenhouses and out of sight. As she waved it goodbye she also spotted another figure approaching the nursery with prompt pace. She ran over too him inquisitively, “Hey there Regulus, what are you up to?”

OOC: sorry it took awhile, I wasn’t sure if someone else was going to reply to the post. XD Spread the love like peanut butter!

Regulus halted, internally startled by the energetic Hufflepuff. After a pause he smiled and shrugged a little.

"Oh, I'm just here to find a thinning agent that I can add to a specific potion I'm brewing. What do you think the best choice of herb would be?"

Carolyn froze slightly at his question for she knew next to nothing about Herbology -much to the dismay of Professor Sprout, her Head of House-. She always did fine in the class but once she was out into the fresh air her mind would go blank.

She had a small yet rather involved conversation inside her head on how she should reply to the slytherin. "It would depend on which sort of potion you would need it for." that was stupid. She smiled sweetly at him half hoping he would see through her response as a Herbologist genius.

"Of course it depends on what type of potion. So, what about a potion to be spread through the stroke of a quill, rather than the intake of swallow?"

Regulus raised an eyebrow, almost sardonically.

She was unsure as too whether he had seen through her response or not; his reply implied that he hadn't but his facial expression suggested the opposite.

"Well in that case," She peered inside the greenhouse to see if any of the plants would spark a memory from an earlier class. A large stock had caught her eye, the reddening tips of the leaves struck some familiarity, but she wouldn't bet her life on it, "I couldn't tell you." She gave a soft chuckle.

"It's admirable that you're honest."

Regulus bent down and after a moment of searching, rose, several small leaves held between his thin, dextrous fingers. He raised them to his nose and sniffed once, taking in the cold air and sharp scent in equal parts. Lowering his hand, Black winked at Carrie.

"Sometimes it's permissible not to have the answers. You just need the concept. However, in herbology, I would advise you to pay attention, for your own good."

His face lightened and he looked around them for any possible activity or detail that Carrie might have been engaged in. Not finding anything in particular, he turned to her.

"So, what brought you out here today?"

A slight blush found its way to her cheeks, "It's not that I don't pay attention; because I always do, it's just that once the cool breeze hits me it seems to sweep away anything I could have learned. Though somehow I always seem to pass my Herbology exams." Carolyn didn't think she would ever understand how she pulled them off every June. She looked down at the leaves in Regulus' hand. She would have never guessed that to be the plant he was looking for.

Carolyn was very thankful for Regulus changing the subject as it gave her cheeks a rest. "Well I was out for a walk when I spotted a squirrel which ultimately lead me to a fieldfare. I was quite surprised because they are birds of passage and only arrive here in the winter. Anyways when it flew away it went over the greenhouses which brought me here to you." She gave a cherubic smile as the image of the fieldfare fill her head.

Regulus thought for a moment before identifying the fieldfare in his mind. He smiled a bit sheepishly before getting his lips under control; he had been thinking of magical creatures.

"How, uh- interesting. Any idea what might have brought one here?"
