Lizards

Howdy, I'm looking for some advice or someone to point me in the right direction. I've been having a bit of a problem with these lizards/ geckos that keep getting into my apartment. It's not that I don't want them here, but I have two indoor cats. I keep them inside so they don't harm wildlife. They roughed up one before I could get to it. It ( Read more... )

I understand your concern (and we don't get wild geckos where I live--I'd be fascinated with them!), I will say there's probably not much you can do to protect them from birds. I'd focus your worries on your own two kitties getting them, and yeah, putting them farther away from your apartment would help.
We had a mouse problem for a while in our house, and when we captured one (as humanely as possible) we'd release it into the woods behind our house, the idea being that it'd not find its way back to the house.
I wonder if there's a little shelter you could invest in for the lizards that would protect them from birds but keep more out of your apartment at the same time? I'm no real expert, but I've always had a thing for building shelters for wildlife.
Good luck, and thanks for being concerned with them. =)

I think the best you can do here is let them take their chances with the birds. It's tough, but that's nature (and hey, the birds gotta eat too), and if they can't keep away from their natural predators... Getting in the house is almost certainly a death sentence for them unless you see them pretty quick--if the cats don't get them, they'll probably have difficulty finding enough to eat indoors unless you've got a major bug problem in your home. So yeah, in your position I'd probably put them further away from the apartment; better for them to face the dangers they've evolved for than the dangers of feet, cats, and slamming doors.
