new year's eve with the ravenclaws

Dec 30, 2013 13:42

Reid loved New Year's Eve. The countdown, the silly party accessories, the excuse to get completely smashed and kiss random strangers at midnight, all for the sake of waking up to a supposed fresh start the next day. While he never really needed much of an excuse to go out, it was always nice to have a reason for getting all his girls together to ( Read more... )

What was the point in being able to schmooze your way into the hottest wizarding clubs if you couldn't take your friends with you? Still, Ava was pretty proud of herself for the VIP access.

"It feels odd having everyone except Skylar... we'll just have to drink twice as much." There was a mischievous smile on her lips as Ava shrugged and looked up to their waitress. "Tequila rose! 10 shots for now. Oh who am I kidding, bring the bottle!"

"Bloody hell, woman-" Jemma said, a low whistle passing through her lips as the waitress walked off. "You trying to give us all alcohol poisoning for the new year?"

She asked her last question with a quirked smile, Jemma taking the moment to tuck her hair behind her ear as she let her eyes scan the club. She hardly ever made it to a night out these days so this was a bit of a treat for her. The place was packed to the brim, groups already dancing, couples already snogging each other senseless.

She smoothed out her dress, leaning back into the cushy booth as the waitress returned with the tray and a few glasses.

"I don't know what you are on about, Jem, darling. That bottle is just the warm up." She winked. There was actually some sense to her choice, the creamy shots stopped you from drinking too much in one go, and so Ava found that it made a good warm up shot for after their predrinking. "Wait for the real tequila, we'll have you on the tables before midnight."

"Well, alright, as long as I'm not the only one up there," she said, throwing Ava a knowing look. "Or at the very least, make sure to position me between two very fit blokes-"

It hadn't been as late in the night as Skylar thought it would be and she wasn't ready to go home yet. She was a wreck and she didn't want to go home to an empty flat. There was only one place she needed to be and that was with Reid ( ... )

Reid might have been a few too many shots deep already, prepped as he had been to combat the sting of Skylar's absence with the much warmer sting of expensive liquor, but there wasn't much short of a sudden onset of deafness that could've kept him from registering the sound of his name the way it rang out with that tint of teary neediness, even from all the way across the room.

"What-" he looked up from the next shot he'd been preparing himself to throw back, his eyes catching sight of Skylar as she walked in, Jonah protectively trailing along behind her.

"Sky- what the-" He abandoned the still-full shot glass, the buzz of alcohol that he had been building up efficiently forgotten as he dashed across the room to meet Skylar's reaching hands, promptly wrapping her up in a solid hug without bothering to ask why it was a needed gesture, or why she was even here in the first place. Explanations could wait-

Skylar wasted no time wrapping her arms around Reid's shoulders, clinging to him in a desperate way. His body felt stable against her frail, shaking frame. He kept her grounded.

"He's was terrible-" she breathed, the tears finally coming now. A violent sob coursed through her body. Her chest hurt, a heavy weight settling over her so familiar she knew it could only be heartbreak.

"The things he said to me-"

Reid instinctively tightened his hold on her as the sob that shook her reverberated against him, casting an incredulously questioning glance over her shoulder to Jonah, whose look of mixed concern and lingering anger (or, as angry as Jonah Linney's dimpled face could ever really look) didn't do much in terms of explanation or comfort.

It didn't take a genius, however, to guess who the 'he' her shaky confessions was referring to.

"It's okay," he muttered against her ear, loosening her grip on her just enough to lead toward a quieter corner of the room, away from the inquiring gazes of their friends. He shot one sharp look in their direction, however, and they knew enough to let them go off on their own.

"It's okay, you're fine, I'm here," he said softly as he settled her down onto one of the barstools that lined the room, gently brushing a stray strand of hair away from her face.

Jonah wasn't sure how he'd been convinced to follow Skylar to Danse Macabre but he was pretty sure the hysterical sobbing helped with his decision. He didn't want to leave her after what happened back at Lavender's- he was still raging that no one stepped in to do anything about it until he did.

Still, he felt a bit uncomfortable in the club, seeing how he was certainly not dressed for the event nor did he want to chance running into any of his teammates.

But when he spotted Ella, he couldn't help but grin, making his way toward her.

"Hey, stranger-"

Ella had obviously spotted Jonah when he had unexpectedly walked in, conspicuous as he was with a crying Skylar in tow. She'd been too distracted by the sight of the wreck that was her friend to do much more than spare him a quick double take at first, but now that Reid seemingly had the situation under the control, she allowed her glance to slide back towards the man and his stupid dimples and stupidly unbuttoned shirt and sleek jacket. Between this and the last look (or lack thereof) she'd seen him sporting, she wasn't sure which she found more distracting-

"Hey yourself," she grinned back, fiddling with the drink in her hands. She threw a nod towards the back of the room at the two huddled figures, her eyebrows knitting together with questioning concern. "What's all this about?"

He realized, then, that no matter what she was wearing (or wasn't wearing), he was still always a little wordless when he saw her. That sudden burst of confidence came from the drink in his hand, the dark and stormy he had been sipping on since bringing Skylar.

But still, he was more than glad to see her.

"Oh-" he frowned, tossing a glance back at Reid and Skylar. "You know- it was a bit of a mess, really. She and Harry- well, they got into an argument? I think? It looked more one-sided than anything else-"

"Oh dear-" Whatever Harry had done to get Skylar into such a state, she certainly didn't envy him now that Reid had been brought in for damage control. She shook her head, a sad quirk of a smile pulling at her lips. "That boy can't seem to keep himself out of trouble. Thanks for bringing her back here, then-"

She turned back to Jonah, nodding at the drink in his hands. "Staying for a few, are you?"

Skylar had already had a good amount to drink, she was dancing on the line of tipsy and drunk, trying to push herself over into a place that would drown out the sound of Harry's condescending laughter. The sting in his voice still made her shudder.

But she pulled back a double shot of tequila and the warmth spread through her entire body.

"I need another shot!" she announced, grinning again as fuzzy bliss clouded over her.

All she had to do was look at one of the boys in the bar and they'd come running. Desperate, most of them, and happy to take in the sight of her bare, flat stomach and swinging hips as she danced around the room.

If Ava had anything to do with it. All her friends would be way past the line of tipsy and firmly in drunken territory. New Years Eve was for doing things that made you half groan and half laugh in the morning as you held your head and fumbled for a hangover potion.

Hearing Sky's demand for more drinks, Ava grinned. Two more shots were poured and she beckoned for her friend to come get then. Beckoned all the way up so they were standing on the table, a mischievous smirk on Ava's lips as she played up to the people watching her.

As their drinks were being poured Skylar grabbed Ava's hand and danced around her. She eyed a taller bloke across the bar as he nodded to her before turning back to Ava with a devious smirk on her lips.

"You're brilliant, love. This place is brilliant," she told her over the music, getting nice and close to tease their audience.

Running her fingers through her hair, Ava laughed as if Skylar had said something deliciously naughty. Why not make the most of it? They both knew the games they were playing. "It wouldn't have been any fun without my girls... or Reid I guess." Ava did get a thrill out of winding him up, even if she refused to admit he was as important as the rest to their group really.

"Pick your target. I give you one free pass."

Sebastian had no idea why he was doing this. He kept right on showing up everywhere he was invited. Calling it research would have been comforting, but Sebastian could only lie to himself so much.

Jemma invited him. Skylar was interesting. Reid - Well, Reid existed.

Somehow, it was still ridiculously easy for Sebastian to get in anywhere, without bothering to track down someone to verify where he was supposed to be. It probably had something to do with confidence and acting like you were in the right place - or glaring and daring someone to attempt to question you.

Either way, here he was, and it was ridiculously easy to find the weird little group of former Ravenclaws that seemed to be monopolizing his time lately.

Seeing as he had shown up fashionably (or grumpily, rather) late, it wasn't much of a surprise that Sebastian was stumbling into the middle of a bonified shitshow - Ava and Skylar were dancing on the bar, Ella was off trying to out-shot someone twice her size as she tended to, and who even knew what the rest of them were doing what with the easy availability of free-flowing alcohol and good-looking men.

When Reid's gaze settled back into focus from the blur he had brought upon himself by accepting the dare to double-fist shots, his eyes stubbled upon the new addition to the room. Jemma had mentioned that she'd slid out an invitation, but he had brushed it off and assumed it wouldn't be acted upon-

Never had he been so pleased to be wrong.

"Well, well, well," he greeted Sebastian, shoving one of the two fresh shots he had snatched from the bar (the bartenders had finally caught on and had stopped waiting for orders, had instead just gotten to keeping a few ready-to-go glasses lined up on the bar) in the man's empty hands. "So good ( ... )

For all the people that were scattered - crammed - about, Sebastian could pick out the people he knew were connected to Jemma's core group. Considering they were on bars and each other - and plenty of other people - it wasn't exactly hard.

It was almost hard to hear Reid when he turned up and thrust a glass unceremoniously into Sebastian's hand. "Where else was I going to get to see this much of a hot mess first hand?" Sebastian snorted. He held the shot up in a bit of a toast and threw his head back, swallowing it all in one go. When in Rome, and all that.

Having wandered away from Pat and Sky, (she could always reintroduce herself to tall, blonde and handsome once Sky had moved to the next man), Ava stumbled across Reid and Sebastian .

Pausing, she looked them both over, then between them, smiled, nodded, kissed them both on the cheek, and kept right on moving to her next shot without a word.
