Fun Little Changes

Feb 13, 2011 14:38

I'm quite surprised by how much we're able to change our journal layout. Look around my main page and look at all the fun changes I've made! :) If any of you have questions as to how to do it yourself feel free to ask! It's a lot of fun. I'm really going with my song obsession

Now all I need to do is change the graphic at the top of my journal. ( Read more... )

I see your Kyoya and raise you a Mori.

*shot*

Don't ask me why I said that. Anyway--I see. As a person with a Paid Account, what's really involved with having one? Is it true that it only costs $20/yr? And how do you get more icons after the extra 15 you get with a Paid Account? I'm kind of addicted to icons

And as for codese--I'm going to try my hardest to learn it! Seems like quite a useful tool to have.

Darn--I don't have anymore Ouran icons! *sniff*

Oh gosh--seriously?! That much? How many more icons do you get for that? And the whole five each year IS a good idea though. :)

Yeah, I made my own completely. There are templates hanging around somewhere, and how to guides, but it took me absolutely forever to work out what changed what, so I looked at the style sheets of some custom ones and compared to see. It took a lot of guessing, applying and then re-editing until I got it right. Worth it though ( ... )

Thank you so much! :) Wow that looks crazy--so that's all just for the header? Yikes.

So....I found a little instruction thing on how to customize and where you'd put your CSS code, but from the way they described it you had to come up with EVERYTHING. So would it work if I just put the header in there or something? Because I like the layout that I have now, but I just want to change the header. I suppose that won't work then, huh?

Oh, and I've done a little more digging, and I've found a site that teaches you all about html, css, javascript, etc. It's called w3School Looks like a TON of information but I'll learn it slowly! And thanks again for the help--I'll go and just try it out. :)

All right--so I figured out how to make a header for my specific layout that I'm using...but all it does is add the header I made to the top, and I want to replace the header. How is that supposed to work?

If you don't know that's fine--I'm still looking. ^^;

One second I looked at the header, it was quite appropriately fireflies by night. Now it's books!

XD Well--I found out how to put a header in...but it still kept the book one, so I ended up with two headers! :( I'm trying to figure out how to replace the books with the fireflies.

Did...did you just see the fireflies one and not the books one?? Was there text with it? I'm a noob here

I'm seeing the fireflies again, and the text says "...as they teach me how to dance".

Sure! :) All right--so first you go to your user profile, click on "Journal Style," then you should see a small box that has your theme in it, then click on "Customize your theme," then down on the left click on "Custom CSS." Then there should be an empty box called "Custom stylesheet." That's where you enter in the little changes you want to make to your layout.

Now, below is what I used, but I'm not sure it'll work for your theme, but try anyway! :) You can click on the link above in my journal for other help if it doesn't help, but I'm sure it'll work.

#header-inner {
background-image: url(THE URL OF YOUR IMAGE);
}

#header, #header-content {
background-image: none;
}

#header-inner {
background-image: url(THE URL OF YOUR IMAGE);
height: 300px;
}

As a note, BOTH urls used above must be the same. This makes sure that you replace the header you already have with the one you want. If you just do it once then you'll end up with two headers ( ... )

No prob! And uh...truthfully all I know is what I've found from other people, so I don't know how to adjust it for you. ^^;

BUT I've learned a lot by looking at this person's post here and you can find communities specific to your journal type like the one I have for Expressive/Mixit Journal Style because that's what I use. Whatever it is that you use I would suggest typing it into a search engine along with the words "livejournal" and "layout help" and hopefully you'll be able to get what you need. :)
