I woke up this morning with a great sense of peace. I woke knowing that my daughter would have no memory of the Bush Administration and the fear it created in its own citizenry. Reganomics would hold no sway over her; at some point she may find it ironic that those who lambasted Democrats as socialists and redistributionists had always argued

I wept with relief on Tuesday night. I hope that our generation is up to this challenge - it IS up to us to do the hard work that is ahead to fix the problems we've inherited, and the campaign was just the warm-up.

I don't think there is such a thing as "post-race America", like so many pundits have been saying. As post-Civil Rights-era Americans, we have a different experience of this issue than our parents. While there will always be baggage - I'm not naive - it's considerably less than what our folks were taught. However, there are still too many Americans our age who still think that way. I pray that the Obama administration is effective and that Americans can transform our political process into something that works again.
