[ History ] : [Link because this guy's not obscure, huzzah!]

[ Personality ] :
Tamaki is first and foremost a capricious guy. He swings easily from one mood to another, and the effect on his expressions and posture isn't just comedic exaggeration from the animation style. He really will flail his arms if he's upset, or spin around on one foot if he's excited, or huddle in a corner when he's depressed, or grin from ear to ear while brandishing a rose when he's pleased with himself. Some people, when they first meet Tamaki, assume that he can't possibly be that intense all the time unless it's an act. They are wrong. Tamaki's "superficial" personality is his only personality. He can't be duplicitous if he tries - people easily call him out on even the tiniest white lies, and he'd never lie deliberately to hurt someone, not even if it was "for their own good." He can play up the drama of a moment, but the emotion behind it stays the same for him. He can perform in an acting role with moderate success, but only because he knows that's not real.

This is why Tamaki is so popular as the Prince Type for the Host Club. He's not just putting on airs to please girls and get attention; it's because he enjoys both so much that he genuinely entertains them at the Host Club. He wants to see girls happy, and being a foreigner in Japan definitely makes him an exotic draw for the Host Club. He's the face of the club, with charisma not just in looks but also in his bearing, dress, and address. Even in his dorkiest, most ridiculous, sometimes downright stupid moments, he presents as a high-class gentleman. In those moments, he can come off as a snob, but he genuinely doesn't know any better when it comes to middle- and lower-class cultures.

When it comes to his friends and the Host Club in general, Tamaki is fiercely protective of them and their reputation. His genuine anger is an intense expression, usually involving Tamaki grabbing someone by their shirt collar and shaking them. This is manifested in his nickname and role as the "Papa" of the group. He's not a meticulous planner like Kyouya, or as clever and crafty as the twins, or athletic as Mori and Honey, or as self-sustaining as Haruhi. He's just a fun-loving event planner, and he wanted friends, so he created the Host Club. Since he is the founder, he takes great pride in the Club's existence, and the happiness it brings to the female populace at Ouran. It's something he succeeded in creating from the ground up, and he had hoped that would please his Grandmother - the matriarch of the family - but she still treats him poorly. Tamaki, on the other hand, does not treat his Grandmother any less respectfully.

Related to the "Papa" persona is Tamaki's personal dedication to Haruhi's well-being. For all the time that he spends doting on her and looking out for her, his love for her innocent. Consciously at least, he does not desire to be her boyfriend. He wants to see her embrace her femininity more and often gets tricked into contests for her attention with the twins, but to him these are not romantic gestures. However, he will go to great lengths on her behalf - whether it's with her knowledge and permission, or not.

[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
One of Tamaki's greatest strengths is his worldliness, for all the derp he brings to it. He's fluent in French and English from being raised in France, and nearly fluent in Japanese. More importantly for the Host Club, it means that Tamaki embraces Japanese cultural events and ones from the rest of the world with equal interest and passion. He's the ideas man, and the Head Cheerleader, basically; he lights the fire that gets others motivated.

A weakness of his is that not all of his ideas are good ones. He can have ten ideas in ten seconds, but it's up to someone else to filter through it all for the best solution. Often, Kyouya serves as that filter by pointing out which ones are fiscally irresponsible, which ones are selfish indulgences, and which are just plain ridiculous fantasy.

Generally, Tamaki likes to believe the best in people, which means he can get taken advantage of rather easily and depends on his friends to bring it to his attention or take care of things on his behalf. He's very perceptive of peoples wants and needs as a host, but that's because they aren't actively trying to deceive him. When someone goes out of their way to pull the wool over his eyes, he's usually the last one to find out - if ever at all - because it has to be shown or told to him directly. Occasionally, the Host Club members even use this to their advantage; Kyouya can use power of suggestion by placing objects for Tamaki to find, and Tamaki is often taken in by the twins' games.

[ Other Important Facts - Abilities Section] :
PSYCHE! Tamaki is completely normal. He's an active young man who enjoys soccer and baseball, so he can land a kick or a punch, but not nearly on the level of a shounen hero - or even a sidekick, for that matter. He has no magical defenses, and is actively fearful that he can get cursed.

[ Questions? Comments? Concerns? ] :
Nope~ I've touched base with many members of the current Host Club cast seeking their approval before applying for Tamaki, notably Kyouya and Haruhi's players. They both also contributed to my DR post! :D
