How's the job market up there for nurses? I would think with all the medical companies, clinics, hospitals, research labs & c. it would be happy hunting, but is that an accurate view of things?

Nah, management keeps trying to get more with less. All the companies up here are kinda taking the view that if they can make it look good, it is good. So they spend some cash to spruce up the looks and then lay off nurses, aides, and other staff. That's what the strike's about, staffing. MNA hasn't even gotten to talking about wages since at the least for Nurses (and I imagine a lot of other industries) the "raises" they get don't even match inflation so every year they work, they make less in terms of real money.

Things are tough all over. The last time I got a raise at any of my jobs was 2007, in my last year at Wells. It didn't keep up with inflation either.

Bad economy or not though, that's not acceptable. The economy should exist for Americans, not the other way around. We could do better, but the problem is that industry has gotten to the point where if they can get away with it, they'll try, and not really take any damage for it. Especially the bigger companies. And even if the moves they make take down the company, the upper level management tend to make out like bandits letting the average Joe take the fall. So the decision makers generally have no incentive to not take huge risks.
