It's a little difficult to call his method of training a 'method', really. He has a tendency to 'play with' his pokemon whenever he's bored or not at work or some combination of the above, and spends an inordinate amount of time staging intricate and far too elaborate training exercises under the pretense that it's an alternate method of training (when in reality, it's just him getting his pokemon to amuse him). The bulk of the training his pokemon does is due to the fact that he enjoys taking nature walks -- it works because most of 'nature' doesn't like him on principle and thus his presence in the wild tends to draw an unseemly number of hostile pokemon to him. To date, he's still not entirely sure why, but hey, at least his pokemon profit.
All things considered, his pokemon gain on average about three levels a week. However, he focuses the actual training on the younger and less experienced members of his team out of the notion that if he were to disappear on a whim due to world mechanics, he'd like for the baby pokemon to at least be able to protect themselves. This is his way of assuaging his conscience. As a side note, he rarely, if ever, confines his pokemon within their pokeballs because it's more amusing that way. However, due to a certain incident, the flaming hedgehog is now forever kept inside of its pokeball. :|
He's now named all of his pokemon after various cities back from his home world. You can thank Rise for... not quite giving him the idea, but for urging him to give them suitable nicknames. 'Smoky' will forever be Smoky, however. Rise's nickname stuck.

A playful, curious pokemon-- Marseille likes drifting about as she pleases and prefers to answer to no-one. It's unfortunate that things rarely go the way she wants-- though she supposes that it's all right, considering that Fuji Shuusuke's sense of humour generally runs along the same lines as hers. Besides, his hair makes for something great to chew on while she plots her next stint. Despite her general princess-y sort of air, she sports a surprisingly strategic mindset. On the other hand, she is amazing possessive of the things she considers hers, and will fight like a bobcat for sole teasing rights.
Marseille is named after a city in France.

A quiet but memorable pokemon, Odense is a pokemon of materialistic bliss. He enjoys hoarding small but interesting trinkets for no discernible reason other than the fact that he likes them and that he can, and his favourite place for hiding these trinkets is in other people's boots. More often than not, he forgets about the existence of his caches-- but when brought to his attention, he'll defend them viciously. As a pokemon, he enjoys battling because outwitting others is fun. When communicating, he tends to be vague at best, preferring whimsical whistling sounds as opposed to any discernable language that anyone's liable to understand. As a side note, he's one of the few pokemon who's capable of stomaching some of Fuji's more unique 'creations' without departing from the land of the living dramatically, though this may of may not have to do with the fact that he is already dead.

Craiova is a bitter, bitter pokemon. While subdued, he has a constant air of disdain to him, which, intermixed with his serene gestures and graceful manner of movement, tends to make him seem far more sinister than he really is. He rarely shows his outward emotions, though not to the point where he might be called stoic-- but he's never been known to panic, even in the tightest of situations (one of which involved a pickle jar and the dreaded vacuum cleaner). This is mostly due to his analytical nature, which gives him the illusion of passivity. During battles, he prefers to hold back, rarely exerting himself. In contrast, however, he is always in a terrible mood after losing a battle, even if it's due to his own actions. The bottom line is that he is a very arrogant pokemon.

London must've been a cat in a past life, for he is too curious for his own good. As a pokemon, he is inquisitive, childish and more than a little too involved in being spontaneous. On the flip side, he has a very limited attention span, and training him is very difficult. He likes to play pranks, but unfortunately gets pranked almost as often as he attempts to prank others-- his naive and good-hearted nature prevents him from being too dastardly (though it's not due to a lack of effort). He just isn't suited to be malicious. On another note, he smells like permanent marker when burnt, and is in a steady relationship with Fuji's hair iron.
He is named after the capital of England, though more often than not, he responds only to 'Smoky', which Rise dubbed him during the Rocket Escape event. It stuck.

Osaka is the stereotypical embodiment of her name. She is cheerful, positive and idealistic. On the flip side, she is air-headed, clumsy, and has the attention span of a five-year-old. Because of this, she has an unfortunate tendency to smack head-first into things when she's flying (though she's gotten better at it after doing some intensive training with Fuji on an island in the middle of the ocean during the Mad Dash to Cherrygrove episode). However, it doesn't change the fact that she is often so derpy that it hurts, and tends to believe just about anything that she's told (something that's quite dangerous when your trainer is Fuji Shuusuke). In the end, though, she means well. She really does. As a side note, she likes physical affection, warm places, and oranges.

A pokemon that Fuji often jokes about being 'Tezuka in rodent form, seriously'. He isn't too far off the mark. Berlin is most likely the world's single-most grumpy Raichu. He tends to grunt out his name in monosyllables, and is almost always very exasperated with his trainer's antics. He was born a very serious creature, and that seriousness has turned into a sort of a grumpy disdain over the months (though if your trainer was Fuji Shuusuke, you'd end up the same way). He is a terrifying force to behold in battle, though, and unlike his namesake, tends not to be chivalrous in the least. Every tactic goes so long as the battle ends in a win. On the flip side, he is unfortunately short-sighted, with the unfortunate effect of his lightning generally going nowhere near where it's supposed to go (he's fried a lot of lampshades during his time). It's gotten better since Fuji got him a pair of heart-shaped frames (pink). While he doesn't approve of the colour (or of the shape of the frames, or of the fact that he needs glasses, period), he ending up feeling a little better after they successfully beat up the first person who laughed. And the second. And the third.

Salt is the world's laziest Ditto. There really isn't any other way to describe it. Laid-back in the literal sense, it has the tendency to stretch itself across the nearest available flat surface and will stick there until Fuji peels it off. It's laziness stretches to the point that it can't even be bothered to move if people step on it, and to date, not even Fuji has yet to find a way to motivate it to start moving. It gets along very well with Syracuse, the Typhlosion, and given the chance, the two will laze about together forever.

Manila is graceful, beautiful, and damn impatient. As a pokemon, it seems incapable of staying still, constantly flitting off here and there for whatever reason until it runs out of energy and collapses in a pile. He seems to have an intense dislike for caution, erring on the side of 'try everything once, even if it kills you', and therefore has gotten into many nasty scrapes that eventually petered out in intensity after Fuji started training him intensely. Nowadays, he enjoys racing things that are larger than him, and reliving his younger days by running across the Breeding Center's pool. As a side note, he spends at least an hour a day flirting with the waterspout at the back of the tennis courts.

Since evolution, he's become increasingly judgmental of the creatures around him -- if he's watching you carefully, you can be certain that he's judging you for just about any reason under the sun. On the other hand, his gruff nature is really just a cover for his awkward social skills, proving that he never really outgrew his childhood shyness.

Syracuse embodies the nature of lazy Italian afternoons. He has a great propensity for sleep, an even greater propensity for food (though he is not particularly picky about what he eats, so long as it's within easy reach), and has an unfortunate love for sitting on Fuji every chance he gets. Fuji supposes that the latter habit emerged from months of sleeping on Fuji's shoulder as a pre-evolution, and therefore doesn't resent him for it. Much. A happy pokemon, Syracuse takes very little maintenance to live a happy, idyllic life. However, he is surprisingly fierce in battle, perhaps as a way of channeling any pent up energy. As a side note, his snoring is the stuff of nightmares.

Fuji theorizes that she simply doesn't know the meaning of fear, and acts accordingly-- and at times, this almost seems like the most plausible answer. On the offset, she is friendly, docile and affectionate, a pokemon that enjoy basking in the sun and cuddling with people. She's sometimes forgetful, generally spacey, and most of all, kind. She seems normal. On the other hand, she enjoys baiting fire-breathing doom-dogs. It's not hard to figure out where the disconnect begins.

Bern is a shy, shy thing. Originally 'Ursa Minor', under the care of {...}, she came under Fuji's care after her trainer's departure from Johto. A very timid and sweet thing despite her size, she makes multiple attempts at hiding behind Fuji whenever meeting strangers, despite being nearly twice his size and capable of crushing him with her little finger. Sometimes, she'll go as far as try to climb up trees in an attempt to escape unwanted attention, though her size gives her mixed results at best. However, she is terrifying when provoked, and when she feels as though her trainer is being threatened, she will drop two hundred and seventy pounds worth of bear over your head. As a side note, she enjoys giving hugs. Really exuberant hugs.

The cutest thing. Despite sporting spines in awkward places, Alexandria (Alex, for short) is a very affectionate creature. While she's learned from early on that hugs aren't her best method of conveying that affection, she's taken to collecting and giving little trinkets to those that she loves and cherishes. Of all of Fuji's pokemon, she is the one that best understands human speech, and therefore takes it upon herself to translate. On the other hand, she is terrifying to watch in battle, being surprisingly graceful even while commandeering a fleet of spines and quick on her small feet. Unlike most Cacnea, her flower only blooms rarely, and Fuji collects, drying and pressing them like treasures. Sometimes, she blooms for others for the sake of their happiness, hoping to leave behind a memento that will forever elicit love.
Alexandria is named after a city in Egypt. Fuji sometimes call her 'Kei-chan', after a certain Atobe Keigo, not because she resembles him in any way, but because he knows it'd piss the captain off.

However, he is thoughtful when you least expect it, and enjoys dancing by himself when he thinks nobody is watching...

Kyoto embodies her namesake. She is an elegant pokemon, a bit standoffish, and polite to the point of farce. She is unsociable, but not unkind, and drifts through life with the carriage of a princess. As an ice-type, she dislikes the heat and will go great lengths to avoid it-- and this carries over to everything else that she dislikes. When Kyoto doesn't like something, she makes herself scarce, and therefore, while not terrific at imprinting her will on the world, is A++ in the dance of preventing the world from imprinting its will on her. Solitary and independent, she is a proud pokemon who only bows to a select few. As a side note, she's surprisingly musical, and Fuji's been teaching her how to read the treble clef.

A quiet and docile pokemon, Xi'an is the definition of passive, to the point where it's hard-pressed to figure out if he even possesses a will of his own. He is a pokemon who seems genuinely confused as to what he should do when left to his own devices, and therefore, he does nothing. Fuji sometimes worries about him, but only sometimes.

A sweet bird, if not a bit too quick on her feet and too slow on the uptake. However, she means well, and keeps the best interests of her friends at heart. Having been rather attached to her old trainer, she still sometimes exhibits signs of restlessness, prone to staring off at the horizon at a far away point, or waking up in the middle of the night pecking away at Fuji's sleeping bag because she has a sudden sense of something being horribly wrong. Slowly, she's learning to move on. She sometimes crawls on top of Fuji's sleeping bag and sit there. Despite being far too large for this particular venture, Fuji tolerates it, because he knows it reminds her of the same thing he associates it with.
Fuji tells everyone that Ankara is named after a city in Turkey, but only ever calls her Viki. Very few people know why.

A pokemon that generally seems like he lacks in overt confidence, he comes off as distinctly tsun-tsun. Being passed along through the hands of two trainers doesn't seem to have helped with that. Hawza is a reserved pokemon who has distinct trouble mingling with other pokemon, something that Fuji finds vaguely concerning, not that he knows what the poor Marowak should do. Slowly, the pokemon's closing himself off. Sometimes, Fuji sits with the pokemon on a rooftop and watches stars with him.

A pokemon that Fuji finds fascinating, by virtue of being so incredibly different from all the other pokemon around her. While genial and cheerful, she has a great propensity for violence (one almost expects it, with a jaw that size) but manages to channel it far more fiercely than any pokemon her size should be able to. Cunning, quietly brilliant and powerful, she has the patience to out-wait just about anything in order to pursue her goals. She loves hair decorations, for some odd reason, and can often be seen walking around with at least several bows tied to her jaw lovingly.

A beautiful, independent creature, Larissa is very sociable and very sassy. She is a shrewd pokemon, analytical in nature under that friendly and amiable front, and enjoys using her wiles to get her way. Despite her cut-throat personality, she gets along with everything and anything so long as they don't pull anything funny-- with the sole exception of Fuji Shuusuke, whom she hates so very much that it's almost become a running. With Fuji, she tends to have an attack-on-sight policy only deterred if she is currently snuggled up somewhere very comfortable and he isn't making any move towards her person. She is one of the few pokemon that truly intimidates him, and seems to enjoy watching him give her wary looks whenever she is in the vicinity. Fuji still hopes one day that he will be able to sit next to her without fear of getting his eyes scratched out.
Larissa is named after a city in Greece.
