Say.

[Generally when Fuji starts off with a phrase like that, coupled with that particular glint in his eyes, those who know him well enough give him a wide berth and try not to maintain eye-contact for too long. He's currently seated in the Mahogany pokemon center, looking cheerful and attentive, which generally means that he's bored as hell and ( Read more... )

!video, thoughtful is his middle name, ... there's a point?, +mahogany, yun2 should sleep, needs more tags, kind of missing the point, he's just teasing, insert innocence here, time paradoxes ftw, thought for food, one tree at a time, never just curiosity, food for thought

[ Seems Niou's gotten bored with avoiding Fuji altogether, which, yes, is what he's been doing so far. Now the audio feed opens to a voice that won't be familiar to Fuji; something deep and slightly gravelly. ]

I've heard it does a mean tango. Never seen it myself, though.

[Thankfully, Fuji doesn't suspect anything. Yet, at any rate. He seems to consider this.]

Funny. I've heard that it was more partial to the waltz, myself.

[ That's the plan. Niou's been going around Mahogany in disguise since he discovered Fuji was there. Who knows how many times Fuji's seen him? ]

Maybe a quick waltz. I've heard the bastard's fast.

[Wouldn't be surprised if they've even spoken while Niou was under disguise. Fuji's been doing some serious sight-seeing.]

That's some grapevine. What else have you heard? Besides that it dances and that it's the illegitimate child of an aspen.

[ Entirely too possible. ]

An aspen, huh? I heard something about a cedar. But I've also heard it doesn't much like water. Bit weird for a tree, if you ask me.

There are people who don't eat meat, aren't there? Maybe it's the tree equivalent of a vegan.

... Yeah, that's totally legit. [ The words seem out of place with his voice, but the voice remains foreign. ] So what do trees eat if they don't eat water? 'Eat water?' Jesus.

[Bet your limited edition Yagyuu glasses that Fuji's noticed it.]

I wouldn't know. I'm not a tree. [Amusement goes here.] Of course, you could always ask it yourself. I heard that for a tree that doesn't like water, it's really quite stationary.

[ Speaking of Yagyuu glasses, Niou was Yagyuu, skipping class on the roof for a nap when he showed up in Johto. Fuji might have seen the Rikkai school uniform on a complete stranger at some point. ]

Yeah? How far is it from here, anyway?

[........ well, that confirms his suspicions. It's someone in Mahogany.]

It's more or less a city away. I'd say half a day to a day's worth of traveling.

Thinking of taking a field trip?

[ Niou knew it would, too. He'll let Fuji wonder. ]

Lake of Rage is getting boring.

[ There's a blip or two in the background; it might be familiar. Niou's messing with the map on his 'Gear. ] Looks like there's some water between here and there, though.

[/wonders. Now would be a good time to revisit that memory of that stranger in the Rikkai jacket, wouldn't it.]

Water-shy, are we? [Amusement goes here. On the other hand--]

But water would be a bit of a problem. I wonder if it's too unreasonable to expect a ferry service.

[ Hmm, wouldn't it just? Looks like an ordinary suit and tie until you think you know there's an imposter in town. ]

Gotta have Surf. Not sure where you get Surf here. [ Now he's racking his brain, trying to remember from Red and Green - ] It was in the Safari Zone in the games, and you had to have five badges to use it. [ You can hear the grimace in his voice. ]

[Let's give Fuji a few more days of lazing about until he actually gets somewhere with that revelation.

... and then he realizes that most people here tend to avoid talking about the games all-together unless they know the other knows of it. Isn't this interesting.]

Then again, this isn't exactly a normal game situation. [Shrug.] It looks like they've changed things around a bit, though. Or at least, there are a lot more pokemon here than I last remembered. [see: giant beetles, exploding pine-cones and cute little giraffes until you realize they're also scorpions.]

[ As if Niou cares if the person he's talking to knows what he's talking about? ]

Yeah, I guess. Looking at the map, though, the only other direction to go is east, then south, and that dumps you right back out near the dinky starter town. Ain't gonna happen.

Gotta find out what's up with Surf.

[All the more distinctive. Niou is Niou because the rest of the world is not Niou.]

Oh, I don't know. Sometimes, taking the scenic route can be rewarding.

[Still, a chuckle at that.] I'll leave that up to you. I can't imagine that nobody's found out anything about it all this time.
