It didn't see to matter where because she was standing still, clutching her sporty messenger bag to her side as she stared, rather unabashedly, at the young man. ]

[Sakuya wasn't looking for anyone in particular or really paying attention, but after years of learning to be aware when someone needed his services, it's hard not to feel those eyes staring at him.

After a moment or two, he turns about to peer over at the redheaded girl he doesn't really recognize. Noticing that she's staring he gives her a curious look but decides not to call her out on it. He's kind of used to being stared at.]

[ --busted! Meiling blinks and then lets out a small laugh, shifting language gears mid-stream while she apologizes. ] Suimasen! I was staring, wasn't I? [ Combination head-bow and head-scratch. ]

I'm not really looking for anything in particular, no. Mostly just getting familiar with the campus since I'll be spending a lot of time here now. And you? I'm not keeping you from anything, am I?

[ She clasps her hands behind her back. ] Me? Nope! I was just taking a look at all the new faces. It's always exciting to have a flood of transfers all at once! I think it's a lot better than having them just trickle in throughout the year.

Does that happen often? I had my own circumstances, but now that you mention it, it does seem like there's a lot of others moving in today. So they aren't all just students back from break?

Nope! I can usually spot a newcomer from the rest pretty easily. Only the really bored or stiff ones blend in at all, or those who are already making new friends. [ Moving closer, she spun on a heel, hair swishing dramatically as she closes one eye and points at some random passersby. ] Like her! Fresh book-bag, and a map sticking out of one pocket.

[ And another. ] And that guy's waving to some friends he recognizes from before the break. [ Except "that guy" just walked up to a teacher and looked rather confused about something. The teacher pointed him on his way, and the student bowed deeply. ] --or they were just asking where the bathroom was.

[ Meiling turns to him again, laughing sheepishly. ] It's not an exact science...

Hmhmhm, so it would seem. So it's an observational thing though? It's a bit impressive nonetheless, picking up those kinds of details.

I guess these things just start to make sense over the years. [ She sighs a bit. ] I remember when I first set foot on the island, I thought it was going to be just like every other transfer to a new school. Boy, was I wrong!

Both! It's a lot more... multinationales, you know? Schools back in Japan and China were a lot more, um... home-- hum-- hom-- [ Meiling puts a finger to her chin, and murmurs under her breath. ]
