It was almost as if she had heard a ghost with the way she jumped, turning immediately to Sakuya. And to stare in near disbelief. This... was probably what that call from her mother was about. The one she missed and never returned.

"S-sakuya?!"

A coat AND her Fourth Doctor scarf. Which completely muffled her mouth and made her next words to Sakuya completely incomprehensible.

Sakuya chuckled a bit as he watched her bundle up; it was bit much, but if that made her comfortable, so be it. The scarf presented a different problem though, which prompted the boy to reach over and hook a finger in it, pulling it down below Patchouli's chin.

"Repeat that again?"

O-oh. That was... The revealed cheeks were bright red with a blush and she suddenly found herself unable to remember what it was she wanted to say. Damn it all, what was this? This was stupid, is that it was. Sakuya was her childhood friend. She needed to pull herself together and stop being such a stupid girl.

"I was thanking you for your help."

If Sakuya noticed the blush, he was far too polite to comment on it and/or far too intelligent to start making cliched - not that he would know it - "Are you sick? You feel rather warm" comments.

"It was really nothing. While I'm here, both you and Lady Corinne should feel free to call on me if there's anything you might need assistance with," he said with a casual smile.

"Don't start calling her that either. You know her nickname as well as I do. And she'll probably insist you not be so formal," Patchouli teased. Somehow saying things like that relaxed her in his presence. A reminder of when they were still children...

"It's not right for a servant such as I to call her so informally though," the butler protested mildly. "I suppose if she were to ask me to... " To talk with them like he used to... but he wasn't a child anymore and neither were they. He couldn't be so lax in his duties or neglectful of their status.

"You're that family's servant. Not ours. I won't have you trying to distance us like that," Patchouli grumbled.

"E-even if I'm not your family's servant, the fact remains that a servant is what I am, La- Patchouli," he said with a small frown. At least he caught himself before referring to her by title again.

"I don't care, Sakuya. You're my friend and I'll have none of that deference," she practically huffed.

"If you say so..." he finally relented. Though who knew how long that would last; no doubt he'd be giving Corinne the same respect unless she reprimanded him for it too.

"I do..."

There was a pause. An awkward one. And then, "Would you like some tea?"

It was a show how much that little debate had put the butler off his game that he let that kind of pause develop and it was not him who fixed it.

"I'd be delighted," Sakuya responded immediately, giving a little smile. Inwardly, he shook himself a bit, telling himself to get it together.

"I'll put a kettle on, then. You may select which tea you want from the pantry," Patchouli brightened up some. This... was more comfortable. This way, they could be more like how they used to be.

"Thank you, Patchouli," he said with a soft smile, following her out to the kitchen and locating said pantry. It was a bit more comfortable like this, even if he had to resist the urge to take over tea-making procedures. Limiting himself just to the selection of the brand, he pulled out a canister of something a bit more Asian in origin - since returning to France he'd been inundated with black teas and missed a Japan perhaps a little.

"The jasmine... Always a favorite," Patchouli smiled, softly. She had always loved the scent of it.
