thanks so much, appreciate it! :) btw, for the selective color step, which do I apply it on? the duplicated base or the 2nd solid layer?

ok, select a new adjustment layer>selective color.

I've changed some parameters and put last duplicated base not to the top, but second from the top, and got something really nice:
