Yesterday our porch posts were covered in ladybugs, and today there's no sign of them. Were they meeting for mating, or a rendezvous to flee this climate for the season? I read that they were sacred to Freyja, and then the Virgin when Christianity took over, and it was all kinds of good luck to get them in your bedroom, but they only ended up in ( Read more... )

I think they swarm and migrate or something, but I'm not 100% sure. I know finding a huge swarm of ladybugs is not unusual, I just can't remember what purpose it serves in their little beetley lives.

And yes they are good luck, but I didn't hear they're sacred to Freyja. Doesn't surprise me though.

They are flighty little creatures for sure! I have bought and released them around here as a pestcontrol. The directions always say to release in the evening so that they atleast stay put until the next day or they will fly off.
Yesterday we also had tons of ladybugs, I was not sure if they were ofspring of the store bought ones or native.
