Name: Keel
Series: Shinkuu Yuusetsu
Timeline: post-manga
Canon Resource Links:
Shinkuu Yuusetsu is set mainly in a country in which there are two kinds of people: suppliers and receivers. Each supplier is paired up with a receiver and as the titles suggests, one supplies while the other receivers. What they exchange exactly is energy, as in how a normal person will get through eating. The receivers create this energy in their bodies and they must transfer it over to their partner via a kiss. If either one goes for too long without these kisses, they can become extremely weak and sick, even dying. Therefore, it's with utmost importance that the two stick by together for most of the time.
The manga is focused upon two male characters: Alexi and Rael, but there is a complete chapter that focuses on another pair: Elias and Keel. In this chapter, these two boys are the rare example of what happens when they lose their partner either due to death or other circumstances. It shows what struggles people in this situation have to go through and especially for this pair due to the age gap of at least four years, which is never preferred in pairing up suppliers and receivers (reason being is that their schedules can conflict with each other too much).
Keel is a supplier and he has been separated from his receiver due to her studying aboard. So, he is placed into the system of those who will need a new partner. His closest match is Elias, but while they are the most suitable pair, he feels unsure of this choice throughout the chapter. This is mainly because of the age gap and that he isn't sure that Elias will want someone as old as him or as different from his last partner. While going back and forth on the decision, eventually at the end, he accepts the other and they become an official pair.
That is the last major story he appears in, but Elias and Keel come in later chapters as support characters.
Personality:
Keel is first shown to be sleeping on a desk while working over at the school's medical building. It's not because he's a slacker, but rather he's one that takes his studies rather quite seriously. Staying up late to get his daily required studying and work done is not uncommon to him, so he tends to be pretty sleepy during the day. Also, he can be a pretty forgetful guy, always remembering something after he is suppose to. Despite that though, he's an exceptional student that will always like to expand the focus of his knowledge, which is why he volunteers at the medical wing. He takes his studies quite seriously and while he's not smart enough to earn a trip to study aboard, he has a good noggin on his shoulders such as working out calculations on computers.
He's a kind and caring young man who can worry about others easily, which is why he can be a great doctor. He enjoys in helping others and being in the company of children, since he can get along with them quite well. In part with him being caring, he doesn't quite like digging into matters that don't concern him and he will not poke his nose into a person's background if it's not his business. He's displeased when he sees the local newspaper printing about the death of Elias' partner, so he will not do much of that probing himself. Also, in part of him being kind is that... well, he's a bit of a push-over. It's not that hard to get him to do something that he may not exactly want to do, such as becoming the errand monkey for a professor or giving in easily to Elias for a kiss and meeting him at night. He won't argue very much and the same goes if he's being called a name or something of the such. He will just flow with it and go along, much to his dislike.
However, while he can be a push-over, the one thing that he will not allow to slide easily is speaking of death or not thinking much of the future. He slaps Elias when the boy starts speaking that he will die without his old partner and tells him that he shouldn't talk like that. He doesn't think that death is something that should be so easily spoken about and that people shouldn't overreact, blocking out other options. If he feels the need to snap a person out of something, he will take action. He will not completely blame them for thinking out of line (such as with Elias; he's still a pretty young boy at the age of twelve), but he's not afraid to speak up.
Another trait that shows up throughout his main chapter is that he can be indecisive. The main reason for this being is that he really thinks about the other person instead of himself. With some decisions, it's not that hard to come to an outcome, such as when his original partner has asked him if it's okay for her to study aboard, he has agreed. With some other decisions such as whenever or not he will be Elias' new partner, he will take longer. He's stuck between thinking about how hard it will be for them to be partners with such a large age gap, but also how it will be even harder for the boy to go on with a supplier that doesn't match his wavelengths as much. He tries to pick the decision that will be most helpful for the other and if he's stuck between two hard places, he will take a while. Not to mention that his fears can factor into this as well, as he can be afraid of abandonment from Elias if he gets paired up again, so that only delays him in making a quick decision as well.
Overall, Keel is the kind of person one might except to be a doctor: studious, kind, compassionate, caring, and thoughtful. While he can come off and look like a dork (he has been called that so many times that he's practically used to it), who is perfect for doing meaningless chores, he's a good person deep down and definitely one that can be counted on.
Strengths:
» Dedicated/Hard working: Just because he has studying to do, that doesn't mean he can slack off with his volunteer medical work! He will not take time off on one thing so he can focus more on the other. He will work his best to fulfill everything, even if it means pulling all-nighters.
» Kind: He's there to give a helping hand if needed and is a polite student, making him quite the nice boy.
» Selfless: He doesn't think of himself as much as for other people. He worries about others and thinks of their well-being before his own. He doesn't ask much for himself.
» Thoughtful: He takes into consideration on the other person's feelings/thoughts on the matter before he follows out on a decision or whatnot.
Weaknesses:
» Indecisive: For some choices, it can take him some time before he finally makes a solid decision because he keeps going back and forth. It can be quite frustrating, really.
» Low confidence: This doesn't appear often and he doesn't have a very big issue with it, but he can think down upon himself at times. He calls himself a slow old man and doesn't think that Elias will really want him as a partner for reasons that put himself down.
» Music: Unlike Elias, Keel cannot make heads or tails on knowing anything about this subject. He can't really sing, play an instrument, or anything. He can appreciate music, but he's pretty darn clueless on the whole thing.
» Push over: He can be easily swayed into things and it doesn't take much to make him into an errand boy of some sort. That or give him a sad look and he'll give in.

[ The video feed blinks on from the darkness and the screen is suddenly filled with the bright lights from the inside of a local Pokemon Centre. Out appears Keel and his Ralts resting in his arms. It doesn't look very pleased being held like this. ]
I just healed my Pokemon at the centre here, but is it really okay to let them be up so soon? It seems like they're overdoing it, but mine here is getting restless just sitting around all day.
[ The Ralts squirms in its trainer's grips and eventually frees itself, jumping down to the ground. It begins to dash off and outside of the centre, much to the chagrin of Keel. ]
Ah--! [ NO WAIT STOP RIGHT THERE ] Thanks for any replies! [ He quickly says before shutting off the feed. BRB CHASING AFTER A SMALL POKEMON NO RALTS WHERE ARE YOU GOING NOW EXTREME BUNGEE JUMPING IS NOT A GOOD IDEA-- ]

The thought of staying in Johto wasn't the most terrible thing ever. Worse things could have happened as Keel arrived in this strange world.
He could have arrived here without Elias and he knew just how bad that would be. Even if it seemed like he only needed to transfer energy off only about once a day now, it would have still been pretty terrible. Being a supplier, it was easier to find someone to give off energy to back home when Sakiha was off, but just that first few symptoms aren't that great and he would not like to experience more of that. Even worse, he would not want Elias to go through that if he had arrived all by himself. Considering how picky he was with his supplier, Keel would not want that to ever happen.
The other good thing so far was that he could actually find work here in those Pokemon Centres. Sure, they were not exactly the same as volunteering at the medical building back at the school, it was still something. He could learn a thing or two while working here and further his studies, even if it's... about Pokemon. Well, some procedures should still be the same. He wasn't too sure if he could figure out the technology to heal burns in a second, but he sure can try.
Overall, Keel was taking it well in Johto so far. He could live it here until someone finds a way back home. He wasn't exactly in a huge rush so no major complaints from him. Oh, wait. Maybe just one: what was going on with that music?
That strange music that was always playing faintly in the background, no matter where he was. It wasn't per-say annoying, but... he had to wonder where it was coming from. At first, he had thought he might be hearing things, but the others had heard it too, so it wasn't just him. It was unusual that it kept going on and on, switching so suddenly if he got to a new town or his Ralts was battling another Pokemon. He may not know anything about music, but even he knew that wasn't a normal thing and the whole thing was... kinda bad. It wasn't terrible or anything, but when compared to Elias' singing, it didn't really stand a chance. Plus, it got pretty old after listening to it for a few days in a row.
So, while he was fine here living here in Johto so far and he doesn't mind it, he will figure out how that music is working one of these days. Then maybe he can turn it off, or at least change it. After all, working in a Pokemon Centre and hearing that for hours to come can drive anyone mad.
