It's quite simple. Spike was off in some other dimension swanning around in his spaceship, not paying poor lovesick Angel any attention, so Angel had to do something to get him to notice him, didn't he? And what could possibly fit the bill better than having very loud, very noticeable public sex with their former girlfriend in outer space?
