I would say that for the topic you chose, showing diversity wouldn't be too hard. "popular image of ideal masculinity/femininity" is basically stereotypes, no? If so, you have to remember that there are different expectations placed on each ethnicity. At least if I'm understanding what you are looking at this is the case, and different ethnicities may be more prone ot depression due to this, fact.
Or you could look at class differences effects. Like are middle class people more likely to desire to fit the ideal image, and thus more prone to suffer unnecessary stress. Or is money part of the issue and so lower class children suffer depression more because it is harder for them to achieve the ideal?
Just a couple thoughts, I'll post more when I have more tiem to think about it, but I have to go to work now.
Looking at your previous post and explanation of the project, I'm not really sure how well the topic about Xena and 7-of-9 would go... I'm not sure how it would relate. If there was a statistic relating the release of a new teeny-bopper series like 90210 or something like that to grades, that maybe would work... Maybe a grade fluctuation relating males in the school and football season? I'm pulling stuff out of my ear now

I just had the urge to apologize to someone, but I'm not sure if it was you, or your future students. KIDDING! I bet you'll be a good math teacher 'cause you actually understand math... And that always helps.
Suuuure... *doesn't mention that he's getting through his math class 'cause the teacher has it open book/open notes so he just copied the notes down and didn't learn nothin...*
If you can find someone to point you in the right direction, that one would be amazing. I'm sure you can find people who have had classmates commit suicide. I've heard people talk about it before (though no one I've known personally) but it's an interesting topic. It's interesting to hear people talk about people they've known commit it. It makes it so much more real. We all know people are out there that commit suicide, but it gives you a much more informal in your face experience when you hear people talk about it and people close to them.

Hmm... My high school had an abnormally high rate of depression and suicide attempts. There was at least 2 attempts that I know of while there, and at least one other student that checked her self into a mental clinic instead of attempting.
If I were to go off rumors, then up until my class, I think about 1% of the students who passed through there attempted suicide. But I don't know if the rumors would be correct...

I can tell you all about military suicide. Many of my friends are unshackled from the great oppressor now because of it. I myself went through the ordeal.

Unfortunately, only secondary (middle and high schools) education can be taken into consideration... based upon what information I can get from a collegue of my teachers, I'll see if I should do that or the depression one
