Well first off, like I said, I'm not going to poo poo anything. You should do whatever you'd be happiest with. But I will say my favorite was your original half dragon idea.
The edges seemed rough to me at first. But he seems like the most devoloped of your choices. To me, he has the most in charector RP appeal. But that's just IMO.

So... according to Chad, we're underpowering ourselves. LoL. I still like the idea tho...

Actually, we were talking about it more, and I dont think so. It would be almost too powerful to have a character with a dragon mount that was that powerful. Almost the only way you could have a character with a mount like that and keep everything balanced is if the mount itself were a PC, I think. So. good job. ~_^
Oh yeah, and Dan? you are a bit off on your age there. If you want to play a juvenile, you will be at least ECL 23 or 24, are you sure you want to do that? Also, you're going to have to find epic progression for gold dragon monsterous levels too... the draconomicon explained everything up till lvl 20. Alternatively, you could just take class levels and not worry about the epic dragon progression. Just FYI.
I still should point out that nothing states that its ECL 23 or 24... logic states that yea, actually, its higher than originally thought, but still...
The Young Dragon has 14 HD and +6 Level Adjustment, however the level adjustment for Juvenile (next step) and up is 'Other: -'. Inge pointed out that, in Dragons at least, it has a tendancy to '-' when they would hit epic. However, there are also a LOT of creatures (such as Allip) that have a Level Adjustment: - that are definately not epic. So... the way I'm taking it is this: (quote of what the level adjustment section is from beggining of 3.5 MM)
Level Adjustment This line is included in the entries of creatures suitable for use as player characters or as cohorts (usually creatures with Intelligence scores of at least 3 and possessing opposable thumbs). Add this number to the creature's total Hit Dice, including class levels, to get the creature's effective character level (ECL).
