She was, for once, sleeping.

The past weeks had been especially stressful, though in a quiet, unspoken fashion. No one wished to discuss their continued failure, which irritated Reinette beyond measure. There was no way to fight a thing if one did not face it. The silence grated, setting her on edge.

So instead she spent each day focused on the dozens of files brought back from her journey through England in an attempt to gather more information. She was not a creature bred for idleness.

A fire burned in their room, lit and maintained by hand. Proof of her efforts were visible in the stack of firewood gathered, and the kindling gathered nearby. Winter was upon them now, a reminder that time would pass regardless of failure or success.

This was what she carried each time she drifted asleep.

Until rest was broken by the sound of her name.

"Reinette!" He turned a few dials and watched as the power began to restore itself to the console. He could feel the buzzing in the back of his mind as the TARDIS woke up, lazy like a child that slept too late in the morning.

He darted back towards their bedroom and smacked the side of his cane against the door.

"Reinette! Wake up! Quickly!" There wasn't a need for speed, perhaps, but he hadn't felt this sort of excitement in a long while. Since the TARDISes first went quiet. He ran to the bed and reached out his hand for her.

As her eyes opened Reinette was aware of a subtle change in the light. The sensation that one had slept to little or too long, upsetting one's sense of balance. Only that was not what this was. And even as she sat up, the light continued to shift. Growing warmer. Brighter.

It was then that she was reminding how despite his cane, her husband remained stronger than she often credited. Her arm very nearly separated from the shoulder at his enthusiastic tug. She gave the event very little attention.

Something was changed. More than just light.

"What did you do?"

"I don't know!" His words were said with a bright, excited grin. "I was just out there and he woke up!"

He gave her another gentle tug. "The whole console room is on. You have to see."

She didn't have to see, but there was no way he was going to experience this sort of glee alone. He was out of practice with raw glee, he might hurt himself.
