Bittersweet - H/G Ficlet Challenge

Dec 18, 2005 22:36

This is my entry into the hpgw_otp Colors of the Rainbow Challenge. I picked bittersweet. Fic is rated G with a side of angst. Thanks to alkaloid for the once-over beta. ♥

I'm nabbing fernanda_evans's idea and posting the scribble of it from Crayola's website:

Nice, fits the title word well. And retroactively amusing to go searching for the answer to Harry's question, and discover that it's already there in the orange-and-pink haze of the sunrise.

Hi and thanks!!

I sort of meant that - that he knew it was ONE of the zillion orangey-pink shades but couldn't remember which exactly - but I didn't say it right. Ah well. :)

Glad you liked it.

Very nice -- I love how you incorporated the whole color theme, and the way you wrote the unspoken understanding between Harry and Ginny.

Thanks!! That's kind of how I see them - they don't need to say all that stuff because it's not going to do anything, and they already know that, so let's just enjoy the moment we've got.

Also I had to do a reworking at the last minute because when I first signed up I had thought bittersweet was a shade of brown, so I was hoping the color bit didn't seem pastede on yay! - whew. ;)

This is great! I love stories that explore backstory! I also really liked how you incoprporated the theme of the challenge as well.

Thank you!! I was worried it'd be too meta, pulling in the crayons AS crayons, but they said it was OK, whew. And backstory is awesome. I originally had more about him getting found out because he was using crayon-names to describe colors, but it dragged everything sideways so I skipped it. Glad you liked it. :)

good prose. nice back story with the stealing the crayons. i think all kids (well, i did) compared the colors and wondered where the different names came from =)

also liked the harry/ginny-ness. very them.

Hee! I know I did. To this day, I don't know WTF "umber" is. So the plot bunny kind of jumped on me and I thought, well, fuckity, I'll go with it. And yeah, H/G kind of have that rapport, I love it so. ♥ Glad you liked it and thanks! :D

I like that you included some backstory and left 'her' unnamed. Of course, it's obvious but it's more mysterious. I also love how you incorporated the color theme. Great little fic! Thanks for sharing.

Ooooh, you noticed!!! Yeah, I left her unnamed and I only mentioned his name once, and I tried to skimp on all the details of the wedding - I was going for this really minimalist feel on everything except the colors of dawn, which were taking center stage and overpowering the rest of it. I wasn't sure I pulled it off, though, so thanks so much and I'm glad you liked it. :D
