Fremen are not "desert ninjas." Fremen are FREMEN. The whole fucking symbolism of them is that they are purely and essentially themselves (original Dune.) As they move into the beaureaucracy of Paul Atreides' empire (Dune Messiah, Children of Dune) and lose that desert purity, they start to fall apart, becoming a corrupt and decadence race, outwardly idolizing their desert origins while inwardly despising them (God Emperor of Dune.) With the collapse of the Arrakis-based empires and the re-desertification of the planet, the Fremen are forced back out onto the edges again--and gain back the wholeness of their ancestors (Heretics of Dune.)

In summary--Fremen are meant to be Fremen and nothing else.
