Private to Lupin the Elder

[Private to Remus Lupin]

Things seem to be improving. We're at least speaking again.

Thank you for your advice, as meddlesome and interfering as it was.

Severus

You're welcome. I'm very glad to hear that. And thank you for being upfront with me.

That's rare.

Rare is one word for it.

Good is another.

People walk on eggshells around me.

Why do you let them?

You should try yelling on occasion, Lupin.

I..

Completely alone? Severus, I'm not a parent. I don't have any children of my own. I've never taken care of a child without someone else. You're not seriously going to trust him to me, without any supervision, are you? Yes, I'm responsible, and yes, I manage to keep Sirius from falling down the steps, or starving, on a daily basis, but it's not really the same.

What if he starts crying for you or Harry and there's nothing I can do to console him? I don't know what he's allowed to have to eat, or what he's not, or when his bed time is, or which of your potions do what, and..

I'm too exhausted to get this worked up, Severus. I'm going to pass out.

Good god, man, I'm not sending you into a war zone with a five year old, you are babysitting! Pull yourself together! We'll feed him and leave you appropriate snacks if he's hungry before bed. If he cries for one of us, he will get over it, but if he has your attention, he won't cry. IF for some reason he does cry, read him a story or color with him and he'll stop.

Stop being such a baby. Do you want to get to know Teddy or do you not?

Yes, of course I do, I just.. don't want to mess things up. I'm less likely to do something or say something stupid if I'm around other people.

He's a child. Stupid things just make him laugh. I'm the most disagreeable person on the planet and he still seeks my company. I'm sure he'll do fine with the human marshmallow that is Remus Lupin.
