[ This is a Remus Lupin sitting at the kitchen table. It's obvious he's just turned the video function on with a tap from his hand, because he pulls it back and slips it somewhere into the fabric of the wool dressing robe he's wearing over his clothes at the moment, to scratch at something irritating. His expression is tired and a ( Read more... )

I'm a little peckish actually, if you're offering.

What'd I say about making tea.

[paaaaaaaaaause OH FINE.]

... Well, I'm not all too sure what we've got, really. Fancy a sandwich? And tell me what happened.

I would love a sandwich.

[his own pause. as he rearranges his ice bag.]

Would you believe that I was viciously attacked by a small, wild bird?

I'll bring some salves and other things back from the potions shop. Or you're free to stop by, whichever is easier--I can't exactly leave work until midday.

You assume that even if we offered, he'd accept any help. He hasn't been abandoned, and he's just as capable as any of us of caring for himself in a place like this. It isn't as though Ron hasn't done the same thing himself, before.

[ pause and a sigh ]

He's not a third year anymore, Remus. Far from it. He's practically of age, and he's made decisions too fresh in my memory for me to deal with him on a very regular basis.

I think Ginny may be handling it. But it's more than good of you to offer, of course.

Ron is a sight more pragmatic than he's given credit for. As far as Draco goes, you may or may not be aware, but I do understand that all of you are adults or near to being adults, my memory notwithstanding.

But if I'm to understand what I've been trying to glean on my own, he needs eyes kept on him now more than he did the last time he was near to where I could see him.

Then I'll bring home extra, as I imagine this incident will repeat itself a fair number of times in the near future.

I've spent a good number of weeks living out in the wilderness with Ron and Harry, and I don't know that I would have called him pragmatic about it, really, even if I suppose the City isn't the wilderness.

And what exactly is it that you've managed to glean, Remus?

Do you imagine?

There are a lot of kinds of pragmatism.

We'll just say that Harry, bless him anyway, isn't particularly a young man of a huge deal of practical propriety when it comes to speaking in public.

You came back! Have you been back for long? I haven't been on the Network, I'm afraid, I've been terribly busy with other things, but I'm so pleased to see you!

Not long. A few days.

I'm sorry, I don't recognize your name. Were you a student of mine? Or...I'm sorry, I've been having troubles. I haven't got any memory of this place.

Who'd you end up in a row with, Remus?

Mother Nature. She tells me she has no time to hear me out this week, and all of her little birds agree with her, would you believe.

Er-was it one of those plants from the other day, then?

It was just a charm gone very wrong on me, Harry. Don't worry yourself overly much, because it's hardly a bother to me, and Ginny's got it controlled.
