I'm losing steam today.
I'll post the pictures I took this week and some of the captions, because they ended up being better than most of the pictures.
DAY 8
I finished Good Omens today. I was rushing around just seeing the same old things in my neighborhood and then in my house. I couldn't find the picture for today so I started messing with my bed lamp and my jewelry and figures on my dresser.
I took this and it really struck me as appropriate-
white & silver and crimson & brass identical necklaces,
one in the light and one in the dark,
entangled in each other-
It made me think of Crowley and Aziraphale from the book. It made me chuckle a little because it just happened.
So alike, just colored differently...
DAY 9
Fish tank lamp lights swim
Away from the day and then
right back 'round again
Chopstix!
Gainesville, Fl
DAY 10
Jay and I went to get haircuts at Mia and Maxx at the mall and came across this huge flower show. Red, pink and white camelias and other awesome looking flowers.
DAY 11
Strawberry fire
I took 10 crappy pictures today.
This was the best one.
DAY 12
My little chanting monk statue/bank
I was going to make a cherry pie tonight and take delicious pictures, but I didn't read the whole recipe and will have to make it tomorrow.
So get ready for hot, cherry pie mess tomorrow...
You are no stranger to this one....
DAY 13
This is a test pie.
This is only a test pie.
If this had been an actual pie, you would have been instructed as to where and when the acquiring and devouring of said pie would occur.
This concludes this test of the Emergency Pie Committee.
I was downtown and saw these great flowers. Unfortunately I also saw a lot of great people but apparently I need glasses, because I thought they were all in focus but the camera has told me otherwise.
I also got attacked by an 8 year old kid who almost put his grubby greasy fingers all over my lens. He wouldn't stop following me and made me take pictures of him. It was weird.
I felt like I kinda plateaued this week. I need to read the book I bought on digital photography and not let myself take anymore pictures with the telephoto lens. I think that is my goal for the week. No pictures for the rest of this week will be taken with the telephoto lens, unless there is an amazing shot i absolutely need to get. I need to learn how to compose pictures. And how to focus, apparently.
------------------------------
I got my hair cut.
I would show you what I approximately look like, but Flickr is being an ass and not letting me upload and Facebook won't let me link to my picture there. So just imagine me looking a little like Gerard Way and a little like a teenage boy growing out a surfer cut.
It's not so bad now, but I did almost cry after the "style guru" cut my hair.
------------------------------
This week I listened to Gulag Orkestar by Beirut. I quite enjoyed it. There were a couple of songs that really stood out, Brandenburg being one, but the album still felt a bit flat after the second listen. It's the same kind of sound over and over. I might not be in the mood for it, but it also might just be really good background music.
You be the judge:
------------------------
I'm also almost done with Siddartha by Hermann Hesse. I am also pretty pleased with this book. I'm a literary idiot. This fact made me laugh at myself this week. I got half way through it and decided to read the author bio and THEN realized that this was not the same guy who was responsible for Moby Dick. Yeah, maybe I should have taken more readin' classes in college.
I thought I was going to be a little alienated from the story because of the location. I have never really taken an interest in anything having to do with India, so I was on the fence about this one. I'm finding out that it's a pretty accessible story/subject matter. Oddly enough I'm starting to feel that maybe all these crazy people (in the world) do have more in common than I give them credit for having. And it's actually making me feel like I'll be able to learn about other cultures (that I know next to nothing about) without necessarily seeing them as odd and alienating, or as peculiar and amusing. I know of all people I shouldn't feel this way, but sometimes it's hard not to. Then again, I feel that way about most people in my country and "culture", so maybe it won't happen.
Oh boy. For all you lit majors out there, I'm sorry to ramble on and write the worst book review ever. I'm not really trained. I can however, write you a bitchin' technical/science paper.

And that concludes our weekly seminar on the life of Paloma, week 2 (or 3) of 2009.
Thank you and good night.
