Alcoholic, I definitely see her as a wine kinda girl. White wine for preference, champagne for special occasions, though she probably had to drink so much bad champagne during official functions that she went off that unless she'd chosen and bought it herself.
Non-alcoholic, I think she was probably a tea drinker. Particularly herbal teas.
I was also going to say tea. I don't know why. It's hard for me to imagine not automatically saying "coffee" for anyone and everyone, but I do see tea as the primary and coffee as the second choice with her, not the other way around. Unimaginable, but I agree. ;)
Heh, I see Laura as someone who struggles with things like insomnia and doesn't have a problem with remaining active, much of the time, so she'd probably choose tea, and herbal stuff particularly, as a relaxation aid over coffee as a stimulant. That's my headcanon, anyhow!
I see her having something respectable, either whatever wine was served at a function or on a date and business over whiskey with certain old-guard guys (just one, like she appeared to be having with Adama).
Then, I see her sneaking silly sorority-girl-esk drinks on her day off alone or with her sisters. A little rum that looks like it's for a gift when purchased, ice, a blender, and ordinary juice from the grocery store--no one who had to take her seriously needed to know about the little paper umbrellas and daiquiri glass hidden in the back of one of her top kitchen cabinets.
I see her drinking wine at social events -- white in the summer, red otherwise -- and occasionally sipping a glass of Ambrosia while waiting for a plane or in the hotel bar after an engagement. I can also see her making fun drinks, like margaritas, with her sisters and never having them again after they died.
I actually doubt she drank much at political functions, save for one glass of wine at dinner events, because she was too careful to even be slightly off her game in public. Therefore I see her using that trick of seltzer with a wedge of lime to stay sober but leaving others unsure what she's drinking.
And yes, I think tea as well. Seems to be the consensus!
