"Aren't you going out tonight, Cassie??" Bella broke the silence once again, this time standing up cheerfully "Thought Pascal invited you to go with the them to downtown. Are you going? It'll help you distract"
"ehm...I'm not sure." Cassandra answered awkwardly.
Pascal Curious had always been a great friend for both, but the idea of hanging out with her mother's 'ex' didn't make Cassandra feel very comfortable, even if he was only inviting her on a casual outing in a group; and even if Bella insisted that they were only close friends and whatever happened once, long ago, had been nothing but a fling.
Besides, and above all, she simply didn't feel like going out any where. Thinking about Don always managed to ruin her mood.
Sometimes she envied her mother's memoryless life, where all the bad moments had been erased, though, of course, it only meant loosing the good ones along.
Bella couldn't recall the happy event on their life that Cassandra remembered clearly as yesterday, like Alexander's birth
or the day she started high school,
but there were times in which Cassie simply wished to forget it all as well, just to avoid the pain she felt remembering her time with him.
But loosing her fiance or seeing her engagement broken, without apparent reason or explanation, wasn't what hurt the most, or at least not anymore;
After a colder look into her past, the worse was realizing how naive and fool she had been, and how easily she had fallen on his game, even though Don Lothario was known to be a player who would never take any woman seriously.
It was also widely known that he was close friends with the Caliente sisters
and had been romantically involved with at least one of them,
...if not both;
and there also many rumors about the maid who showed up at his door three times a week, while the piles of trash continued growing all over his place;
But Cassandra had been secretly carrying a platonic crush on Don since teen, and was easily dazzled by his charms, making her blind to the signs and deaf to all warnings.
She had first noticed him, not long after starting high school, when he used to walk close to their home, around the time the bus dropped her off after classes, and casually wave at her from the distance,
but over time he started adventuring closer, and even seemed to be making an habit of walking right by their gate at the perfect time.
He'd simply slow down to greet her shortly or rush by with a wink,
but the slightest attention coming from him was enough to make her adolescent fantasies even stronger.
Cassandra didn't have much friends in school, either. In fact, her only friend was Mary Sue Oldie, who was much older than her, and by then was already married with children;
therefore Cassie never had a boyfriend, got a first kiss or experienced love,
and ended up spending most of her teenage years at home with her family.
Meeting Don at the end of the ride home, was the highlight of her days.
Not only he was handsome, with bright eyes and enthralling smile,
but also made her feel interesting and appreciated like no one else did.
Until one afternoon, when her mother noticed them chatting in the street and angrily ordered her to run back in,
while she staid outside arguing with Don.
Cassandra could remember hiding behind the main door, trying to listen to their discussion, which wasn't hard considering the levels it took. She had never seen her mother angrier before.
"Stay away from my family, Lothario, and leave my daughter alone! Or we'll report you for child harassment" She had yelled violently
"We were only talking, Bella, that is not a crime!!" Don replied outraged
"Who do you think the police will believe, Don?? Your word ... or my husband's??" Bella had pronounced the words in such a tone, the insinuation was pretty evident, thought it was probably the first time Bella had ever used the Goth's name to threaten anyone.
"You are nothing but a frustrated old bitch who wants her daughter to have the same sad loveless life she had" Don uttered out loud at the end walking away, while Cassandra simply looked at him through the window infuriated at her mother.
With grown up eyes, it was easy to understand Bella's actions, but unfortunately back then, moved by a childish rebellion, she had mocked at her mother's mandatory lecture, cruelly commenting how much she agreed with Don, and was already planing alternatives ways to met him, away from her mother's vigilance.
Maybe her mother didn't have a job, but she had a busy routine of social events, home chores and daily errands, that kept her occupied most of the time,
giving Cassie more than one opportunity to sneak out and casually pass by Don's house, hoping he would somehow see her on the street.
That way, she had ended up spending many afternoons talking with the grown man on his living room,
or having a snack on the kitchen, while sharing with him probably more information about her family, and herself than she should have.
It was easy to be captivated by his green eyes, and loose all sense of decorum and manners while chatting there alone with him.
Strangely as it may sound, even the stench of dirty dishes and warm beer that overpowered the air on his house was some how stimulating.
And Cassandra was old enough to understand the innuendo on his comments, and the intensity on his tone.
The way he used at look at her, flattered her uniform,
offer to take her jacket off, or joke about her hair,
and certainly, she could realize when he would subtly stroke her legs while sitting on the dining table,
but never did anything to avoid him, at the contrary, she would had gone, as far as he would had taken her.
Now she could only thank, Don never truly abused of the circumstances, and always kept at least some grade of appropriate distance while she was still underage, but it was even worse to realize for how long she had been fooled. She could blame age and innocence at first, but Cassandra continued believing in Don blindly for years after that, refusing to see what was clear for anyone else.
He was just building her trust, while waiting for the right time to strike, but something had happened that probably made him change his mind, or plans. Something that Cassandra now feared may had been related to her mother's return....
A loud noise coming form outside, abruptly took Cassie out her thoughts.
"I think those are the guys coming to pick you up, what should I tell them, then??" Her mother asked.
"I dunno, mom, I really don't feel like going out" She reply heavily.
"C'mon, Cassie, who knows, you could meet someone interesting tonight" There was a odd grid on Bella face as she spoke.
"oh! mom ...! " Cassie sighed deeply uttering slightly frustrated "What did you guys do now?? Are you setting me up with someone??"
"Of course not, hun, I just think it'll be good for you to go out a bit, that's all" She smile at her comfortingly.
The bell rang next, Bella stared at her with the pending question.
Cassie hesitated shortly, but eventually stood up with a light smile decided to accept the invitation,
though the animated way her mother followed down the stairs made her regret such decision before even opening the door
.... which Bella did for her, before she could change her mind.
And there he was, a blond man Cassie had never seen before on her life, nervously standing at the door.
"Hi, Vid, nice to see you again" Bella smiled widely which confirmed confirmed Cassandra's first impression.
He was Pascal's brother, the only Curious one she hadn't met yet, though he looked nothing like she had imagined.
"Hi.. ehm ... Bella ... ehm ... " He stammered barely taking his sight from the floor " Pascal .. asked me too ... ehhm ..."
A horn sounded again followed by another man's voice calling at them.
It was Lazlo Curious whom Cassandra had met once before, she could also see Pascal and Nervous Subject along with him in the car.
Bella waved and stepped forward greeting them cheerfully, but leaving Cassandra and Vidcund standing by the door alone.
"Hi... I'm Cass... Cassandra.... Goth" She said, also stammering involuntary, as they shook hands.
"Vidcund .... Curious ... I'm, ... ehm ... Pascal's brother ..." Cassie nodded grinning widely, but trying not to make her enthusiasm too evident
Cassandra had heard about the Curious middle brother well enough before to know what kind of man he was, and surprisingly in person wasn't only peculiarly attractive, with light skin, blue eyes and strong features, but also seemed, though shy, more mature and mellow than his brothers, who were, undoubtedly fascinating, but sometimes too outrageous and unconventional for Cassandra's comfort.
"So are you guys going, or... ?" Bella asked suddenly walking back towards them
Vidcund looked around nervously and rushed to the car blushing slightly, Cassandra stay behind a second to say good bye to her mother.
"Thank you" She whispered before leaving.
More coming soon

A/N: *squees* Finally... YES!! :)
I'm really sorry for the long hiatus, but I've been struggling with this story a lot lately,
This part in particular was very hard to get done, for several reasons, but eventually came thru, and good thing is, between coming back and forward with it and rewriting a lot, I ended up with a another chapter about the Pleasant family almost done, which will include a lot of Mary Sue and Cassandra's friendship, plus some more about a few other families in PV.
I'm happy with it, though, and I really enjoyed screenshooting like always. Loooved recreating a few of the original pictures for it too lol (Did you notice any?) ;)
Hope you enjoyed it. Thanks for reading!! <3
