Hmm, interesting history for them. Not the one I have in my head, but I can see it working. I like John's affection for his crew, and for Lorne especially, and his point of view from in the ship is cool.

One tiny thing - I think you forgot to close an italic tag somewhere towards the end, because the last few sections are all italic.

i didn't think it would be, but it was something i wanted to try and feel out for myself. i'm happy with how it turned out, but like you i really don't think that's the way it happened. from your story i knew that sheppard had a lot of affection for lorne, and for the crew, and i wanted the bit with the ship to stand out, so i'm glad you liked it!

it was an honour to get such a fic that i really enjoyed and hadn't actually seen before. of course, it makes me want more, now that i've read the prologue and sparrows and now there's a big gap ;)

Good choice of pov switch on the original. It's going quite a bit further back than the prologue, but I like the way you interspersed the flashbacks and gave John a fully human perspective with the whole weight of his history behind it. The situations with Teyla and Ford were particularly heart-rending. Good remix!
