Zelenka leaves notes all over Serenity: rice-paper strips with his newly learned Chinese characters-converter coil, airlock, spoon. Behind his back, Mal mutters about finicky, over-educated…. To his face, Jayne laughs at the man who can’t remember anything without it’s got a name on it. Someone swaps the labels for tea and oil (Kaylee suspects Wash, maybe River). Zelenka learns, though. Gradually, the teasing stops. No longer needed, the labels grow brittle, fall, and are lost. Clearing an air filter, Kaylee finds lamp. She tacks it up in her bunk, alongside the dress she wore to the ball on Persephone.
