First off I made it through the holidays ralativly unscathed! Now I only have to survive the house remodel, hard wood floors yay... Dragon's Keeper will be updated sometime in the next week or two, so don't worry about that one. :) It's been almost two months since my last post for it, I feel so bad!  I'll make the next one's extra good and angsty 'kay? ;)

Anyway here ya go more music ficlets 'cuse I couldn't resist.

1. Those Nights - Skillet

Jim Kirk fell into his bed fully clothed and with a tired groan. It’d been another one of those days, everything that could go wrong didn’t and everything that couldn’t somehow did. He’d pulled an eighteen hour shift and he’d barely managed to shuffle his way back to his quarters.

He could remember way back when at the academy he and Bones would stay up all night drinking and laughing about nothing at all, silhouetted by moonlight. It was so much simpler back then, no one was coming to him with their problems, it was just him and Bones. Those were the nights.

Later Jim woke up half naked and with a possessive arm slung over his waist. He drifted off again with a smile on his lips and the sound of Bones’ snores in his ears.

2. Where’d You Go? - Fort Minor

It was just another shift, with various minor injuries and mostly empty bio beds. At least that’s what Leo was telling himself, or trying to. Fifteen hours into a ten hour shift and Jim still wasn’t back. The captain could give the little cocky smile all he wanted but there was no way Leo would ever believe that ‘It’ll be okay Bones.’

He sighed and ran a hand over his face. He hated sitting here and feeling so fucking useless. Jim was in trouble and there wasn’t a thing he could do about it from a starship. He was tired of just sitting around sick bay waiting for Jim to come back from his latest adventure. Undoubtedly the bastard would have to be patched up, and afterward Jim would grin and give him a thank you and a slap on the back before sauntering out of the room.

The crono told him it’d been exactly four minutes since the last time he’d checked, and Leo growled. He hated this.

3. Desperado - Clint Black

Jim could see Bones tried to play the tough, lone wolf but he knew better. Bones was full of twists and turns, just because he acted gruff and cold didn’t mean he was. He was a man that the world had cheated one too many times, he could still care for people it just took a little coaxing. And Jim definitely wasn’t one of those people who just sat around, he could see who Bones was and he was determined to bring him out.

Bones deserved so much better. The drinking and the self loathing, all the guilt the doctor willingly shoves on himself. Jim has tried time and time again to make him see that it’s not all true. Everyone has to do what they can to survive. He works to chip away Bones tough exterior little by little, he knows he’s racing time, and that time is faster. Jim, for now, is forced to stand apart and watch Bone shoulder his burden alone. He’s trying damn it; he has to save Bones before it’s too late.

4. The Only One - Evenesence

“I don’t know if I can do it Bones,” Jim’s whining admission was accentuated by a face plant into a sofa cushion.

“What are you talkin’ about Jim?” Leo growled, his nose in a xenobiology PADD.

“The whole captain thing.”  Leo glanced over at his friend with a glare.

“What?”

“People’s lives are gonna depend on me Bones.” Jim looked up at him, and he couldn’t miss the insecurity there.

“You knew that going in Jim.”

“I know,” the blond let out a huff and flipped over onto his back, “It’s just that I had a meeting today with some of the Admiralty… I don’t think that they trust me to do much other than just sit in the chair and look pretty.”

“What do you mean?” Leo growled.

“They never said it but, I know they think I’m just going to get my crew killed.”

“They’re just a bunch of gray haired old fools, don’t listen to ‘em.”

Jim just snorted and Leo didn’t hesitate to reach over and smack him upside the head.

“I’m following you around, that’s gotta mean something right?”

5. Resolution - Pillar

It’s Christmas eve, not that you could tell. Winter in San Francisco isn’t much like winters in Iowa, not that Jim misses them really, with all the snow and stuff.

Absentmindedly he swirls the amber colored alcohol in his glass. It would be rather convenient if it would suddenly divulge the secrets of the universe, but it doesn’t so he downs it in a gulp. Laying down a couple of credits and he’s back outside. It’s dark by now and he stares up at the spattering of stars above. He was regretting turning down Bones’ offer to spend the week with his family. It’d be better than getting drunk and wallowing in another failed holiday.

Jim’s feet steered him without thought, and he wasn’t surprised to end up in front of the medical dorm. Bones room was as dark as the sky above.

“There you are!” Jim whipped around startled to see Bones jogging up.

“I’ve been looking everywhere for you!”

“Bones what are you doing here?”

“You’d actually think I’d let you spend Christmas alone?”

6. Keep Holding On - Avril Lavigne

Jim’s hand feels cool against his, and Leonard absently runs his thumb across the bruised knuckles. He doesn’t bother sitting, there’s no point, since he’s not staying for long. He just needs a moment to reassure himself that Jim’s still going to make it.

He’ll have to head to the transporter room in a moment, the Turbelerian’s are as punctual as ever, but he wishes Jim would wake up for just a moment. Leonard takes a breath to gather himself and leans down to kiss his lover’s forehead.

“I love you, you idiot. I’m doing this for you, so just remember that before you come after me guns blazing.”

He lets Jim’s hand slip from his and makes his way out into the hall. It’s a short walk to the transporter room and he keeps his eyes firmly ahead.

“Oh Dr. McCoy there you are. Are you ready to face the charges in Jim Kirk’s stead?” Leonard nods.

“I am.” His wrists are bound tightly together, but he doesn’t complain. Instead he stands calmly while the room disappears in a flash of white.

7. Kentucky Rose - Michael W. Smith

Leo’s grandfather had been a warm, kind, country hills sort of man. He never turned away anyone in need and believed in leading by example. A simple man in farmer’s cloths, he was a soul that was missed.

You see, ole’ Horatio had been Leo’s rock growing up, but he’d been gone years now. Seventeen to be exact, but the kid he died saving had three kids of his own and Leo always stopped by to say hello when he was around. Today though, he was just going to visit his grandfather.

It was the middle of spring and the grass was warm beneath his knees.

“I miss you pops.” The headstone was cool to his touch, but the fingers on his were warm, and not for the first time Leo wondered just what Horatio would’ve thought of one James T. Kirk.

Jim and Joanna were waiting for him at the bottom of the hill, and as they left Leo swore he could hear a familiar chuckle floating on the breeze.

8. Say Goodbye - Skillet

Leonard and Jim’s relationship had never been the stuff of fairytales and romance movies. They were two guys with screwed up lives trying to make things work. Fights were common and communication was almost nonexistent, but they always somehow managed to make it all work.

Yet now Leonard was standing alone in what used to be their room. He let loose a world weary sigh, he felt twice as old as he was. Silently he berated himself for thinking that Jim wouldn’t leave for the first pretty tail that would fit his agenda.

Leonard had made up his mind long ago that no matter what happened they would still be best friends, nothing could ever change that, but it didn’t mean it didn’t sting his pride a little or that a bottle of bourbon looked any less appealing.

Later Jim came back bouncing and with a grin plastered on his face. Leonard ignored him and took another swig of alcohol, because alcohol fixes everything.

“Bones?”

“Don’t Jim.” Don’t say goodbye.

9. Fall Away - The Fray

Jim was the lord of the blurt and run. Leo learned this fact years ago, back when they were at the academy. Just when he was getting somewhere with Jim, the blond would get a terrified look and run, usually after reveling something he hadn’t meant to. Leo was glad that Jim felt comfortable enough with him to say anything at all, but the running was becoming irritating. And despite the size of Enterprise compared to the academy campus, Jim still managed to find every crook and nanny to hide in.

Little did the captain know that Leo had a few tricks, such as dirt on everyone’s favorite engineer. Scotty told him hiding places as soon as the doctor appeared and no one saw certain pictures of a certain someone.

“There you are,” Leo growled spotting a rather sheepish looking Jim, “I would prefer it if you didn’t run off like that. I’m getting to old to go running after you.”

“Bones-”

“No you don’t get to talk.” Leo levered himself down next to the captain and promptly smacked him upside the head.

“I ‘sort of like’ you too, you idiot.”

10. My Own Prison - Creed

The Turbelarians didn’t really give him a trial, not that Leonard was expecting one. The walls around him were a cold, soulless gray, their edges fading into dark shadows. They shoved him to his knees and clasped heavy shackled around his wrists, the clanking metal loud in the room. He did his best to keep his face impassive, not giving his captors the joy of seeing him crack. They all knew it wasn’t the captain they were really after; it had been him all along. There would be no penance for him. Fire surrounds him, eagerly licking closer. Leonard can feel his skin begin to burn.

He holds his head up high, gritting his teeth against the pain, somehow he even manages a cocky smile for his captors. There’s thunder in the distance, and he can’t tell if it’s the blood pounding in his ears as his skin blisters.

There’s a roar, and a wave of blessed coolness. His hands fall free of their shackles. Leonard happily lets the darkness carry him away.

He manages to catch a whispered, “Why Bones? Why?”
