This is for all the Buffy and Harry Potter authors on my friends list. The original post talks about Buffy and Doctor Who, but when I followed the link, I saw that Harry Potter fandom ( Read more... )

Thank you for this. I just downloaded all my stories just in case. Pretty sure they are all on LJ but better to be safe than incredibly pissed off.

most of mine is on LJ too, except for the het fic. I just used FlagFic to download the chapter fics as a pdf so I've got a copy of them for myself. I might upload them to LJ one day, or at least to a file sharing site so if anyone wants to read them, they can.

I can't say I am too surprised that eventually they decided to come down on people breaking the rules, though some of the comments to one of those posts makes me wonder about the attention the site got from non-fandom people because of Shades of Grey or the possibility of them selling the site.

I never posted there because of the NC-17 rule, even though people said it was often ignored. But since my most popular fic on AO3 is Sirius/Harry bestiality LOL I wasn't sure I could ever clean that up enough for ff.net. Most of my fic really wouldn't be worth much without the smut. ;)

Sad though. Especially as they sound so very draconian about it.

There's some horrid group of people going from fandom to fandom making it their business to critique fic they don't think belongs on the site. It could be smutty fic, it could be simply that the story has some grammatical/spelling errors. They aren't limiting themselves to being the moral police.

And it seems it's working because it's not just smut being deleted. Many T and K rated fics are gone as well, with no warning or reasons given. I get that the site has rules (and I've broken most of them with 99% of my fics so I'm expecting a mass deletion) but the way they've gone about this is just ridiculous.

I started posting there once I finally worked up the courage to publish my first fanfic and everyone was so lovely. I'm sad that I'll probably have to pull my fics. :(

I started reading there but I would swear when I started reading that they allowed 'mature' fiction but by the time I started writing my own, it was clear most of that stuff was gone & the site was scrubbed. So I got LJ instead and posted here. Later it seemed they were letting some 'mature' fanfic there again but I just never wanted to take the chance, so I never posted over there.

That really sucks that you'll have to pull your stuff from over there :(

It's mostly for violating the G rated title rule.
And while they allow for sexual content (M), they don't allow for graphic sexual content (MA). that's a fine line to walk.

But yeah, there are a number of groups who target stories they don' like. The seem to stick to the bigger fandoms.

TW has about a 3% deletion right now, kind of surprising considering the adult nature of the series.

I'm just trying to back up my comments from Ianto's Journey since everyone was so nice when I wrote that story.

I love reading your stuff on ff.net! I really like the design of the site, despite the semi-subpar search options. Random censorship... not ok. Frowning now :F
