Longtime Harry Potter fanfic obsessor, recent convert to Remus/Sirius. Thus, I bring an offering of ficlet.

Title:The Curious Incident of Two Boys in the Morning
Author:melliloquent
Rating:G-fluffy like woah.
Disclaimer:Not mine.
Era:MWPP
Summary:Sirius watches.

The light filters through the tower windows, stained-glass horses dancing across the thick velvet curtains. Morning is rarely noticed here-if the room’s inhabitants even manage to wake before noon, they are too busy running to catch breakfast to bother looking outside, or even up at the ceiling in the great hall. Things like the way the colors stream out from the sun as it hits the lake (and the ink from the squid’s latest venture) do not faze most boys, and are thusly ignored.

However, if you happen to be one Remus Lupin, it is rare that you miss a sunrise. When the moon controls so much of your life, its daily banishment is a benediction, a soothing balm, the way to get through another day. When you are thirteen and scared and in love with your best friend it is a reminder that some things, like the sunrise, will never change, even if everything feels like it is changing around you.

And if you happen to be that best friend, it is rare that you miss a sunrise either.

Because when you are in love with Remus Lupin, who bottles emotions almost like he fears laughing, the smile that the morning gives him is enough to wake up for.

He keeps his eyes fixed outside; occasionally flickering to the bed where you now hide, the drawn curtains you peek out from, shrouded by James’s cloak. You don’t know what these glances mean yet. Does he wish you were with him, does he hope you’re sleeping so he can be alone, does he feel that same itch that you do when he smiles, when on mornings like this the light strikes the silver in his hair and he seems brighter then any sunrise you have yet to see?

And he is brighter. You know this now. Tomorrow’s dawn will be last he sees alone.
