Terribly sorry if this isn't allowed, btw...

Hello all! I was inspired by this bike for sale on ebay to issue a mini-challenge, which I hope at least one of you will take me up on. Since the auction is only on for another 8 hours or so, I'm providing the pertinent information behind the cut.

THE BACKGROUND INFO:

The Norton, for anyone not familiar, is a classic British bike.

The description of the one for sale reads (I've added the italics:

1974 Norton Commando
Vehicle Description

1974 Norton Commando with original 3456 miles! I went to virginia in April 03 and bought this bike from the second owner with 2941 miles. He had done some work for the older gent(original owner) and took the bike as partial payment for his services. At that time june, 1990 the bike had 2871 miles as noted on the Virgina title which I have, when he recieved the bike. As you can see, I have ridden the bike around 500 miles. I changed the original air box to K&N air filters. Installed a electronic ignition. Also the front brake master cylinder needed rebuilding and I hooked up a just rebuilt master cylinder I had from a 75 Norton I had(see picture). I have the original 74 cylinder with a rebuild kit. It needs rebuilt and installed. I have seemed to misplaced the points cover too. I have all the original parts, points, air box and what ever else I have laying around that came with the bike. She is a very good running bike and went down the road well.
Too be honst, I just am not a British bike man. I ride old Harleys and Indians. She needs some tender loving care to get her road worthery. The pictures of her are about 3 months old. So you can see that the bike is in good condtion and stored well in a heated shop with my other bikes. Paint is in VGC. She is being sold as is with all parts that came with her. Buyer will be responsable for all shipping, crateing costs. I will deliever to a shipping firm local in Atlanta, Ga. for a $35 fee. I have a reasonable reserve at $4450. If you want futher info on the bike, send me your phone# and a good time o call. Thanks for looking at my SNORTING NORTON!!!!!!!

And an interesting question was asked of the seller:

Q: Hello, Has the bike been repainted? It is missing the gold pin strips on the tank. Thanks JR.

A: I belive the tank was repainted by the 2nd owner. Now that you brought that up, I remember he said he repainted the tank for some reason. Thanks

Note the initials of the questioner. Is our favorite author giving us hints?

THE CHALLENGE:

Make up the story of the bike, presuming Remus is the "older gent" who originally sold it in June 1990. Why'd he sell then particularly? What were the services he needed? Who was the second owner? How'd the bike get 2871 miles on it? Why did the tank need repainting? No parameters on the fic/art itself, except that it relate in some way to this particular bike's history.

SOME PICS:

Thanks all, and have fun with it!
