The Letter Maker
Author: sacla
Category: [Boys Over Flowers]; Romance
Rating: G
Pairing: So Yi Jung X Chu Ga Eul
Disclaimer: I don't own them, but oh if only I had the power *mwahaha*
Notes: This was supposed to be a short drabble, I have no idea how it became this long. I apologize to the Swedish Girls in Ga Eul's behalf, she's just jealous that way. Please don't take any offense ^^

Summary: There were still too many things left unsaid. "Write him a letter," Jan Di says. Ga Eul thinks, its easier said than done.

There were so many things she wanted to say.

Will you be ok?
Don't forget your arm warmers.
Should I write to you?
Will you call?
What's your address?
Don't cheat.
Are Swedish girls really that pretty?

Tomorrow, he would be leaving. She didn't know if she could take it. She wondered if she could be strong and quietly watch him go. She wondered if asking him questions would just scare him away. Or would she cry without saying or hearing anything from him?

There were too many things left unsaid.

"Write him a letter," Jan Di says. "If you can't see him go, I can give it to him before he leaves." Jan Di knows how hard it is to see the person you love go. Ga Eul silently envies her strength, her resolve. Jan Di is sure of their feelings, while she wallows in uncertainty.

But she writes to him anyway. She tries to at least.

Yi Jung Sunbae,
How are you? Please don't cheat. I heard Swedish girls smell.

Too bitter, Ga Eul thinks.

Yi Jung,
What about us? Please keep your promise. I won't go anywhere.

Too desperate, Ga Eul sighs.

She changes it again, trying to be more honest. Honesty that equals to a 5 page long letter. Ga Eul crumples the papers, and starts over. It was going to be a long night.

In the end, she went to the airport. She did not cry, she did not ask. He gave his farewell, hugged his friends, nudged Jan Di's head, and smiled towards her.

"Take Care," she says.

"You too," he replies.

And it ended just like that. No kiss, no hug, no answers. Just a smile that could speak a thousand words. If only she could learn how to decipher it.

She watches him leave, while Jan Di walks towards her, with a reassuring hug.

"He got the message."

"Eh?"

"Your letter, I gave it to him."

"What? But I didn't finish anything!"

"I know..."

"Then..."

"I just tore the last part of your 'essay' and gave him that instead. You really should learn to minimize your words."

"YA! GEUM JAN DI! WHAT DID YOU-"

“Can miles truly separate you from friends....If you want to be with someone you love, aren't you already there?"

“-DO?! Huh? Don’t change the subject!”

“Ji Hoo sunbae told this to me once, before Jun Pyo left. I’m passing it on to you.”

She’s stunned, confused. Ga Eul tries to defend Jan Di in her head, ’She means well.’ But really, she doesn't know whether to be annoyed or thankful or just embarrassed. She can't even remember the last thing she wrote on the now infamous 'essay'.

“Go to his studio,” Woobin had asked of her as a favor. “Yi Jung left something for you there. I’m sure you’ll be surprised.” He winks, and she blushes. She feels elated, hopeful. Maybe, just maybe.

But there was nothing. Nothing new in his tidy and serene studio. She searched for something, anything. A bag, an envelope, a box. Nothing out of the ordinary. Except maybe for an overflowing trash bin.

’He left me a mess,’ she sighs and walks toward the bin to pick up the scraps that have fallen on the floor, many of which were crumpled pieces of paper.

Common sense tells her to respect his privacy, but curiosity nags her harder. She unwraps the sheets to get a glimpse of what could be his next masterpiece.

Ga Eul Yang,
How are you?
Take Care of yourself.

Chu Ga Eul,
Don't look too hard for your soulmate.

Ga Eul,
Do you want me to call often?
Don't believe everything Woobin says.

Her thoughts are racing, her sight blurring. These torn sheets of paper, crumpled, and vehemently erased. Short phrases that said more than he could express.

Words she wished he would say.

Suddenly, Ga Eul laughs. She laughs at the irony. She laughs with tears of joy. She laughs letting go all of her anxiety with it. She laughs, because she doesn’t want to cry. Because he opened his heart, though in secret. She laughs because she’s happy.

She laughs, because really, both of them weren’t much of letter makers.

I'll wait for you.

-Chu Ga Eul

I wanted a proper sequel, something along the lines of this MV. But it ended into something totally different in the form of "The Secret Caller". Hope you'll enjoy. :D
