(Scene: At home.  Zach hears the door slam as Cody runs in, drops his bookbag on the floor and starts to run up the stairs.)

Zach:  Com’on, Cody.  Shaun’s waiting for us at the Cineplex.  We’re already ten minutes late, and you know how he gets when we keep him waiting.  Get a move on

Cody:  I’m coming!  Jeez! I gotta  change.  I don’t want anybody seeing me with my school clothes on, Zach.  That’s so totally not cool!  One more minute!

Z:   OK, Buddy.  I’m ready to go here.  Be sure to turn out the bedroom lights.  We’re not  billionaires, you know.

C:   I’m ready.  Let’s make tracks.

(Cody sets the locks and slams the door behind him, then races Zach to the truck.  He can’t wait to see the new Star Trek movie, even though he’s way too young to remember any of the old ones or the television shows.  He’s heard Zach and Shaun talk about them so often that he feels he’s really missed something being born after the Star Trek craze.  Then, all of a sudden, here it is again, and this time he’s in on the ground floor.)

(Zach maneuvers the truck into the closest parking spot, slams on the brakes, and heads towards the movie with twelve-year-old Cody following close behind.  Now, to find Shaun.  That’s not going to be easy in a crowd of trekkies, along with ordinary folks, milling around the ticket counter and the concession stand.)

C:   I really NEED some popcorn, Zach.  I’m starving!  Can I get a Coke, too?  Man, lunch was at l0:30 today, and my stomach is rumbling for grub.

Z:   Sure!  Take this ten, get the family size popcorn, and I’ll go look around for Shaun.

(As he turns around, he stops in his tracks because Shaun’s standing about two feet behind him, wearing his usual silly grin.)

Shaun:   I knew I’d find you and Cody by the food.  I never saw the two of you when you weren’t hungry.  Hey, Codes, get me some popcorn, too.

(Shaun snakes his arm around Zach’s waist, pulls him close and plants a little smooch on him just because he can’t resist him one more minute.)

S:   Missed you! I’m so sick of going to an office everyday.  I’ve just got to get back into my freelancing and working on my book.  I want to be home with you, you know?  I want to watch you draw and paint.  I want to eat lunch with you, listen to music with you, just be with you.

Z:   Yeah, me too.  It’s lonely in the house all day with no company.  Can’t you work out some sort of deal where you can work at home?  I mean, you don’t do anything that you really have to be there for, do you?  You could  send everything you write in electronically, and make your contacts from home.

C:   Help!  I can’t carry all this stuff!  Hi, Shaun.  You mad at us for being late?

S:   No, I just got here myself.  Here’s your ticket.  Hope we can still find a seat.

(The theater is crowded for a weekday afternoon, but they manage to find two empty seats together and one right in front of them.  Cody sits down with Zach and Shaun right behind him, and the movie begins.  All three are enjoying life upon the Enterprise, completely caught up in the world J.J. Abrams has created for their entertainment.

Shaun yawns from time to time, tired after a hard day at work.  All he really wants to do is go home and crash, but he knows Zach and Cody are enjoying the movie, so he does all he can to stay awake.  As his mind wanders from the movie, it settles on Zach.  That’s dangerous territory.  When he starts thinking about Zach, he inevitably gets hot. He doesn’t want to just sit by him.  He feels the strong urge to touch him - to kiss his beautiful mouth, lick his strong, smooth neck, touch and knead his chest and back muscles, and - Oh, Christ, can’t he even keep himself under control for two hours?

Surely an arm around Zach’s shoulders will satisfy some of his need to touch this tempting man -maybe that will hold him until they got home and he can touch him like he really wants to.  A couple of years ago, Zach wouldn’t have allowed him to hold him in public. At least he’s over that stage now.  He welcomes Shaun’s touch, and reciprocates with small touches of his own - Shaun’s leg, his hand, sometimes a quick kiss.  They’vecome a far way in the seven years they’d been together.

Cody’s rapt attention indicates how much he’s enjoying the film, Zach notices.  It gives him a little thrill to know that Star Trek still holds its magic for the newer generation just like it had for his own fifteen years before.  Shaun, on the other hand, is wiggling around in his seat, yawning widely from time to time and altogether out of it.  Maybe he needs a little TLC.  After all, the theatre is dark, and everyone seemed to be caught up in the action on the screen.  This is a perfect time to send out some little love signals to his man.  Nobody can see his hand settle on Shaun’s thigh, squeezing gently, then traveling ever so slowly upward towards the prize.  A little whimper of delight from Shaun lets Zach know his ministrations are not for naught.  Shaun might be tired, but he’s never too tired for a little make-out session - especially in public where the threat of discovery always heightens the experience for him.  He settles down into his seat a little farther and waits for Zach’s hand to reach the promised land.  His body responds rapidly to Zach’s explorations, and Shaun decides to go along for the ride. God knows, he isn’t going to do anything to stop those all-knowing fingers from working their magic.  They know just how to hold him, pressing gently but firmly along his length, moving quickly, then slowing down with a light, feathery tickle.  How much more of this can he stand?  His breathing is erratic, and he’s aware of the necessity to be quiet.  After all, Cody is sitting right in front of him.  He finally has all he can take, and grabs Zach’s hand firmly, lifts it from his body, and holds it tightly against his chest waiting for his heartbeat to return to normal.  As entertaining as this love-play is, it’s just too damned dangerous right here, right now.  He turns his head, kisses Zach’s ear and promises not to stop him later on when they’re home in bed.  This little warm-up session worked wonders for his fatigue.  Now he has something concrete to look forward to in the immediate future.

They may have been together for seven years, but it seems like yesterday when they shared those first sweet kisses--when they both knew they were caught up in something powerful and life-altering.  Seven years and still going strong!
