Winter stuff & last day of autumn pictures

Dec 10, 2011 23:10

I’ve sent the last batch of my Christmas cards & candies on Thursday. The post office was unusually empty, although it’s always full this time of year. It doesn’t feel very Christmassy here, even with Christmas trees and holiday decorations in the shops and in the street. It’s rather warm now (about 0C or -2C) and, I think, we had our first winter ( Read more... )

I love the shapes of trees without leaves! You could write a story, a thriller, based round this set of pictures. I am surprised by your magpie. Our UK magpies are different from the Australian magpies but I didn't know there were Russian magpies, too. The distribution of the colour is just a little different!

We have had snow here, and extremely high winds. The snow lay on the ground further out into the country, but here, we had hail showers and the hail lay. It looked like broken glass and stayed without melting for three or four days.

We are assuming that your elections were what led to all the problems we had with LJ over the last week or so...

I should watch less of 'The Killing' on TV :)

I think those birds called hooded crows in English but I'm not sure. They are basically crows that live here all year round. We do have the same magpies as you do but they are quite rare in the big cities.

We had a couple of snowstorms and that’s it. It’s still quite mild. They say it’s all due to the warm cyclone from the Channel which blocks cold air from Siberia, so, I guess, we’re sort of having your weather instead of ours :)

I'm afraid it is really was the reason of those problems.

I watched the first two episodes of The Killing then we went to Portugal and couldn't get the rest and I forgot about it. By the time I came back we were hooked on Spiral, the French cop show. Colin bought me the boxed set for my birthday and we are gradually catching up on the early epsiodes.

We have a magpie family at the bottom of our garden and they are very noisy.

Our weather is now quite mild, but with high winds and rain. Apparently it's the second warmest year on record. Portugal has had no rain this month and everybdoy relies on December and january to fill the reservoirs and keep the fruit trees healthy. It is worrying.

LJ no sooner got over the political storm than it decided to upset almost everyone with the new style. I know therer are ways round it, but I am annoyed so I am making my Dreamwidth account my main 'home' - I will cross-post and will read my LJ f'list so you probably won't notice.

Although unsettling, the pictures are still so strangely beautiful and stark. It's a nice change from your other usually more happy or neutral work. You really can capture all sorts of moods and feelings with your photograhpy.

Thank you! I do like taking these kind of 'moody' pictures, although I don't do it very often. So it's great to hear they are intersting to look at.
