The springtime of my discontent

Mar 27, 2011 14:07

Spring is a turbulent time in Austin, and it has been equally turbulent within me of late. There's a lot going on, I have a lot on my mind, and I feel a little bit like Alice in Through the Looking Glass, where I'm running really fast just to stay in the same place. Thanks, Anita - you've actually expressed well what I was thinking and not able to say as well. I know you can certainly appreciate just how badly a person can really be reacting and not meaning to when the body is doing all kinds of weird shit to them. I've been thinking of you and hoping for the best possible news for you.

I had my pre-op today, and my doctor joke around with me, but as his PA said, he actually likes doing this particular procedure, it's a short procedure (about an hour long). I do have some interesting post-op instructions, like I have to figure out how to wash my hair for the next 6 weeks without getting my ear wet (so that I don't get an infection which could then turn into meningitis).

The entire ear, since he's basically cutting my ear all around and folding it completely back to get at the inner ear, so the suture site has to stay dry, too. I figure I can use ear plugs or cotton balls for inside the ear, but I'll need to figure out something for the outside.

I can't wash my hair for at least 5 days at all, so I'll be washing my hair tomorrow night (that is no biggie itself, since I usually only wash my hair once a week anyway). His nurse said something about a towel, so I might be able to work out something with a washcloth.

I appreciate that, Donna! I suspect my friends Sara and Heather will likely make some kind of updates on my FB wall at some point during the day on Wed.
