[for Serena]

Beat usually woulda left the party pretty early, but with the plans made for after it, he was there 'till the very end, when near all the stuff was cleaned up an' everyone was leavin'. He leaned 'gainst one of the tables, watchin' the final people shufflin' out. For such a busy party, seein' the roof near empty was kinda weird ( Read more... )

Serena was good at parties. She'd been raised on them, a natural from the start, and when one finished, she'd always known where to find another. There'd been a point where it had all been parties, a long line of them, and she'd never wanted it to end. There had been interminable parties, yes, boring evenings with her mother's friends, but those had been obligations. She'd never wanted one of her own to end before.

As soon as she could, though, with everything cleared out and put away and no one left but those who'd hosted, she headed over to him. There'd been plenty to distract her through the evening, but in the meanwhile, a sort of shyness had set in and she couldn't shake it. "Sorry you had to wait so long."

Beat'd figured it'd take a little while, so he wasn't all that upset 'bout it. Probably was bad it gave him time to think, but that couldn't be helped. There was no turnin' back now, an' he just had to hope things worked out alright.

He eased himself off the table, shakin' his head. "Ain't no problem. You ready?"

Beat paused, then, figurin' it was the kinda stuff girls liked, he offered his arm to her.

Serena nodded, reaching out to lay her hand on the crook of his arm as she stepped in closer. "Yeah," she said. "We're all done here." If she was forgetting anything, Blair would take care of it. She probably had. Even without champagne, of which she'd had a couple glasses, she rarely left a party clearheaded, and his proximity didn't help that. She'd spent a long time not noticing, though she herself wasn't sure how long, and now that she did, it was a little startling.

Leading the way toward the side of the roof so they could head down, she looked over and smiled. "So what was all that earlier about a surprise?" Disentangling herself from him, she reached for the railing and stepped over onto the ladder.

"We're goin' right now," he replied, watchin' her descend. He didn't continue 'till she was safely on the ground an' he was, too. The ladder was a little harder to go down than that hoverin' thing he was let on before. He glanced over, grinnin' slightly. "So you'll see when we get there."

He just hoped things turned out aight with it. He was pretty sure he knew how to run the thing if Sheppard wasn't there, but things ain't ever been real smooth for him. He offered his arm again, knowin' he was gonna have to lead on now.

"We got a small walk," he explained. "Hope you ain't gonna mind that."
