"Alenko, take cover! Leng, go left! Now, goddammit, that's a fucking order!" Shepard barked out over the comm, skidding to take cover behind a huge chunk of rubble. "Shit, shit, shit. Who called the Alliance? I didn't want to have to do this crap."
Kaidan huffed out what was almost a laugh over the comm and leaned up out of his cover to shoot down a few more of the troops coming their way. He only ever aimed for knees. He didn't really want them dead, but they didn't seem to get that he and Shepard weren't coming back to the Alliance and that they wanted to do more for humanity by being with Cerberus.
Kai Leng laughed a bit more than Kaidan, shaking his head a little. "They're a welcoming party, Commander," he assured him in the most sarcastic of tones, and Shepard cussing him out over the comm was worth it.
As another hail of bullets was sent their way, Shepard ducked down out of cover. All they wanted to do was get to the damn shuttle, and of course them taking out an Alliance comm tower had been all worth the effort, but Shepard still had something of a soft spot for a few of them and he just had to hope that they weren't the ones he was currently headshotting.
"Shepard, I suggest you get a move on, there's more coming your way," Garrus' voice came over his headset, and the Commander gritted his teeth. He remembered Garrus saying there is no Shepard without Vakarian the day they defected from the Alliance, but sometimes he was sure Garrus hung around just to be a pain in his ass on a regular basis.
Still, he was readying to move when they took down that last one, and Kaidan catching him off guard with a quick kiss as he ran by was not something he'd planned for.
"Save it for when we're on the shuttle!" Kai Leng shouted at them, but he was already well ahead of them and climbing in through the door. Shepard was last onboard, as always, but they made it out alive, and fuck the Alliance lackees that had got in their way.
